  FORMAL PROPOSAL Title ofmagazine: The title of my magazine isgoingtobe ‘POPTASTIC!’ thisisbecause Ibelievethatthere are many benefits forhavingthisasmymasthead. Firstly, thistitleinstantly letsthe targetaudience know whatthe magazine isassociatedwithandwhatitcontains;popmusic. In addition tothis, byputting the typography incapitals, itwill make itstandout fromthe page;whichdirectly attractsthe reader to it.Furthermore, the exclamation markatthe endof the mastheaddepictsaloud shout;it also givesthe title atone of voice, whichmakesitmore interestingandintriguingtothe reader. Additionally, whenaskingmyfocus groupwhichmastheadthey preferred thismasthead, asthey believed itwasindividualandfun. Explanation of choice of genre: I concluded tohave the genre of my musicmagazine aspop. I thoughtthatthiswas the bestgenre to choose, asI could relate toitthe most, whichwouldmake iteasierforme whenI start to construct mymagazine. Furthermore,I believe thatthisgenre isrepresented very positively inthe musicindustry, whichwouldinfluence more peopletopurchase mymagazine. Inaddition tothis, as my targetaudience isteenage girlsaged16- 19 I believe thatthisgenre of musicisvery popular withinthisgeneration andage group;therefore Ibelieve itwillbe bigsuccess. Target Audience Profile: The target audience for‘POPTASTIC!’ isthe same asotherpre-existingpopmusicmagazines. Ihave chosenthe targetaudience tobe teenage girls, whoare interested inpopmusic. Conventionally, white females are the dominanttargetaudience thatreadpopmagazines andare featured onthem; therefore formymagazine Iwill be followingthe stereotype. The readerformymagazine will be betweenthe age of 15-19. Frommy questionnaire andotherresearch, Ihave decided thatthe genderformy magazine will be forfemales, asthey are seenmore dominantinthe popgenre. The lifestyle formyclientprofile, are teenage girlswhogotoschool andenjoy listeningtopopmusic. They alsolike keepingupwiththe latestinformation ontheirfavouritebandsandartistsandalso lookingatthe charts.

  Initial Ideas: Front Page Formy frontcoverI will have amain image, whichfollows the codesandconventions of amusic magazine. The image wouldbe amid-shotof anattractive female, whoislookingdirectly intothe camera andsmiling- thisconnotes positivity of mymagazine anditalsoportraysdirectaddress. This engagesthe readerandmay encourage themtobuythe magazine asit wouldbe seenas‘friendly’. The positioningof the mastheadwould be the topleft;thisisaconvention of all magazines andwill make my magazine look professional andformal. Inaddition tothis, the mastheadwillbe inalarge typography (largerthananyother textonthe page);thisindicates thatthisisthe most important feature of the magazinesfrontcover. The house style formymagazine are pink, white andorange (withblackfortext) – thisis because thisiswhatmyfocus groups decided wouldbe the bestformy magazine. Inaddition tothis, stereotypically these colours relatetothe popgenre andthey also link inwithmy targetaudience. Thisisbecause conventionallythe colourpink isseenasvery feminine; therefore thiswould draw inthe reader. Onmyfrontpage, I would alsohave typical magazine techniques suchascoverlines, maincoverlines, buzzwordsetc. Thisisbecause itfollows the codes and conventions of amagazine anditwould attract the readers and persuade themtopurchase my magazine. Mymain image, will be placedonawhite background due tothe fact that itlooks more professional. Furthermore, fromthe resultsof myquestionnaire I will be includingacovermounton my frontcoverbecause itwill grabthe readers attention. ContentsPage The contents page, will alsohave arunningcolourscheme of pink, white andorange;thisisbecause it makesmymagazine more professional asitcontinues throughoutthe whole product. Onmy contentspage, Iwill include page numbers onthe bottomrighthandcornerof the page;thisfollows the codesand conventions of amagazine andit alsoallowsthe readertonavigate throughthe magazine andfindthe article they are lookingfor. Iwill alsobe includingimagesof artists, whichwill engage the readerbecause they mayrecognise them. Moreover, fromprevious research Ihave learntthat the mastheadisalsoincluded onthe contentspage;thereforethe title ‘POPTASTIC!’ will be included inthe toplefthandcornerof the page. In addition tothis, Iwill have the mainheading ‘Contents’ onthe page, whichshowsthe readerwhatthe page isabout. I will alsohave the editorials note, whichcreatesa welcomingandwarmingaspectof mymagazine. Thispartof my magazine may be put intoa box, and have typography whichisseenas‘handwritten’ anditwill alsobe informal;whichgivesthe magazineamore personal tone thatwill engage the reader. The imagesI will use will be anchored byapage number, whichshows the readerwhere they canfindthe information onthatcertainpicture. Finally, subheadings willbe usedtoshow the differentsections of the magazine. Double Page Spread My double page spreadwillhave one page, whichjustincludes amidshotimage andthe otherpage will feature the article. Ihave decided thatthe article will be inthe style of question andanswer. Thisis because frommyfocus groupsand surveys they believed thatthisstyle isbesttouse because

  it iseasy tounderstand.The typography forthiswill be muchsmallerthananythingelseonthe page;the question will be inadifferentcolourtothe answer. The largesttypography onthe page will be the title;whichwillinformthe readerwhothe article isbasedaround. The house style will continue onthe double page spreadforprofessionalism. Iwilluse pull quotesthroughoutthe article, whichwill engage the readerandalsosplitupthe content- thisallows the readertotake the information inmore easily. Inaddition tothis, Iwill splitthe textintocolumns, whichwill condense the information;whichmakesthe article more appealingtoread. The image I will use will be supported bya caption;thishelpreaders byinformingthemwhatthe picture represents. Furthermore, Iwill follow the codes andconventions of atypical magazine byincludingthe page numbers inthe bottomcorners of the page. Photographs The photographs, whichIwill include will have soloartistsandalsobands;thisistprepresentthe popgenre. In addition tothis, Iwill use propsinsome of my pictures (forexampleearphones);this will furtherindicatetothe readerthatthis isa pop magazine. Iwill have differentshotsineachof my images, thisallows the readertosee facial expressions (close ups) andalsothe outfitsof the artistsI will be featuring(midshots). Ibelieve thatthe type of cameraangle and shotis important whenitcomes to takinga photo because aspectsof thatimage, give the readercertaininformation. Additionally, some of myphotos will be takenwithlocational backgrounds andotherswill have a plainbackground;thismakesmymagazine more interestingandgivesitamix of techniques.
