  • develop community among former
   students,
  • enhance the reputation of Ivy Tech,
  • represent alumni interests to Ivy Tech,
  • and provide selected services to alumni.

                                               7

Measures of effectiveness for the
alumni association shall include
• Amount of contributions from alumni by campus and year
  group
• Percent of eligible alumni joining the association by campus
  and year group
• Percentage of members using each service provided by the
  association by campus
• Ratio of income to operating expenses
• Improvements in the rankings of Ivy Tech by external agencies
• Alumni survey results indication increased loyalty to Ivy
Tech, reputation of Ivy Tech, and satisfaction with Alumni
  Association

                                                          19
COSTS
• Largest cost is constructing comprehensive database
  of alumni
• Web costs are modest; labor to maintain currency
  dominates
• Mailings and printing can be expensive
• Funding for alumni boards
• Local businesses can earn tax write-offs for
  donations of services in kind

                                                    20
Recommendations
• Standardize a core subset of services across all
  campuses
• Expand practices system-wide from the local
campuses that are already offering extensive
  services (Kokomo, Bloomington, etc.)
• Separate the brand of the alumni association
  from the development office
• Invest in creating robust alumni database and
  populating it

                                                 21

  Development, Washington DC

  Association” from Southeastern Community
  College, Iowa

                                               22
Conclusion
• Expanding the alumni association offers value
for Ivy Tech in several dimensions
• Building deeper relationships with alumni by
providing useful services increases a sense of
community, and alumni financial support will
  follow in time.
