MODULE 1 OBJECTIVES
• Given a diagram of a workstation, the learner will identify and explain
the function of common computer hardware.
• Given a diagram of cabling and ports, the learner will identify and
explain the function of common computer interfaces.
• The learner will demonstrate a working knowledge of common
technology based terminology and concepts.
• Given problematic hardware and software scenarios, the learner will
demonstrate a successful troubleshooting process.
MODULE 1: DIAGRAMS
• Know your Cables
• Look inside the Machine, careful to eliminate shocks, don’t
force
• Use part numbers to ID components
• Google and Manufacture’s Website

• Why?
• Critical for Search Results and Explaining Problems to Others
• “My Screen is Blank”

• Hardware – Parts of the Computer
• eContent – Digital Book Platforms
• Mobile – Relating to Phones and Tablets
• Networking – Hardware and Protocols used in Data Networks
• Operating System – Relating to functions of the OS

• What terms are undefined?
MODULE 1: HARDWARE & SOFTWARE QUIZ
• Around 50 parts of the quiz, could take a while to get through
• Spend time looking over the given diagrams, open up a
machine, quiz yourself on what each part is called and what is
its function
• Look up terms that are unfamiliar, there is a lot of unexplained
jargon, check the glossary or Google
• Take notes on questions you have difficulty with, follow up with
more research or ask for more help
