This document defines and explains several technical terms used in film editing:
1) Shot reverse shot shows two characters facing each other by alternating between shots of each character looking off-screen at the other.
2) An establishing shot establishes the setting and positions of elements at the beginning of a scene.
3) Cross cutting cuts between two or more scenes in different locations to imply they are happening simultaneously.
4) Eye line matching cuts to what a character is looking at off-screen, such as another character or object.
