Tech-Savvy School Leadership
This document discusses the role of tech-savvy school leadership in establishing a positive school culture that supports 21st century learning. - 86. Impact on SchoolCulture We have gone from desktop, stand alones to iPads and 1:1 in just 1.5 years. Attendance is up 15%. Discipline incidents are down. Graduation rate has increased. Parental involvement has increased. Student pride and engagement is up. Instruction and academic engagement is up. The biggest impact has been with teaching students to be cognizant of their digital footprint. This group of students has always known technology; few have other means to communicate. Using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter inappropriately have had negative consequences on some students (bullying, difficulty securing employment, questions from college admissions). Integrating a viable online blog in ELA courses has helped students self correct, monitor others' writings, and learn quickly from past mistakes.
