Terry Fox was a determined athlete from childhood who was named athlete of the year in high school, but was later diagnosed with bone cancer which required the amputation of his right leg above the knee. Undaunted, Fox trained to use a prosthetic leg and embarked on the Marathon of Hope across Canada to raise money for cancer research, running a marathon a day until his cancer spread, forcing him to end his journey after 143 days and over 3,300 miles. Despite his declining health, Fox inspired millions with his positive attitude in striving to help others.
