  The Crusades werea series of Christian Holy Wars in Europe against the Muslim population with the original purpose of ‘rescuing’ the holy places of Palestine from the Saracen. This later escalated into seizing Spain from the Moors, Slavs, and Pagans in Eastern Europe.

  The main reasonfor the start of the Crusades revolves around the city of Jerusalem. During the times of the Crusades, Muslims held control over Jerusalem, which had a strong religious significance to the Christians.

  The preaching ofthe First Crusade caused a massive outbreak of Anti-Jewish violence. Christians viewed Jews as enemies because they were held responsible for Jesus’ crucifixion. The Jews were repeatedly attacked by the Christians until they either retreated, or perished.
