The Father’sCovenant of
Pastor Brent Lokker
January 11, 2020
As they ate, Jesus took the bread and blessed it and broke it and gave it to his disciples. He
said to them, “This is my body. Eat it.”  Then taking the cup of wine and giving praises to
the Father, he entered into covenant with them, saying, “This is my blood. Each of you must
drink it in fulfillment of the covenant.  For this is the blood that seals the new covenant. It
will be poured out for many for the complete forgiveness of sins. (Matt 26:26-28, TPT)
Hebrew: Berit
Translated as “a contract or agreement between two or more parties.”
It is derived from a root which means ‘to cut,’ taken from the reference of
cutting animals into parts with the covenanting parties passing between them
to show the seriousness of their agreement. May this happen to me if I don’t
hold up to my end of the bargain.
God’s Covenant with Abraham:
“‘Follow me and I will make you into a great nation. I will
exceedingly bless and prosper you, and I will make you famous so
that you will be a tremendous source of blessing for others…
through you all the families of the earth will be blessed.’
So Abram obeyed Yahweh and left.”
Genesis 12:1-2
God’s Covenant with Abraham:
“It was by faith that Abraham obeyed the call to set out for a
country that was the inheritance given to him and his descendants,
and that he set out without knowing where he was going.”
Hebrews 11:8
God’s Covenant with Abraham:
“Immediately the word of Yahweh came to him: I will give you a
son from your own body to be your heir…Gaze into the night sky.
Go ahead and try to count the stars. Your seed will be as numerous
as the stars! And Abram trusted every word Yahweh had spoken!
And because of his faith, Yahweh credited it to him as
righteousness.”
Genesis 15:4-6
“We call Abraham “father” not because he got God’s attention by
living like a saint, but because God made something out of
Abraham when he was a nobody. Isn’t that what we’ve always read
in Scripture, God saying to Abraham, “I set you up as father of
many peoples”? Abraham was first named “father” and then became
a father because he dared to trust God to do what only God could
do: raise the dead to life, with a word make something out of
nothing. When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed
anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t
do but on what God said he would do.
Romans 4:17-18 (MSG)
God’s Covenant with Abraham:
“Abraham never stopped believing God’s promise, for he was
empowered in faith to father a child. And because he was mighty in
faith and convinced that God had all the power needed to fulfill his
promises, Abraham glorified God!
So now you can see why Abraham’s faith was credited to his
account as righteousness before God.
Romans 4:20-25
God’s Covenant with Abraham:
“And this declaration was not just spoken over Abraham, but also
over us. For when we believe and embrace the one who brought
our Lord Jesus back to life, perfect righteousness will be credited
to our account as well. Jesus was handed over to be crucified for
the forgiveness of our sins and was raised back to life to prove that
he had made us right with God!”
Romans 4:20-25
God’s Legal (Law) Covenant with Moses:
“I will be your God, you will be my people. If you obey everything I
command, I will bless you. If you don’t I will curse you.”
God established it—His people entered in by agreeing.
(Exodus 19-24)
This was the inevitable result of Adam & Eve eating from the
knowledge of good and evil.
“For the thing I feared has overtaken me.” (Job 3:25)
God’s New Covenant of Grace
❖ I will bless you because it’s my choice to bless you!
❖ I will do for you what you could never do for Me or yourself in a
million years!
❖Your sins are forgiven. I will never again remember them!
❖ Jesus took the judgment and curse from you forever!
❖ I make my home in you. We share my one Spirit!
❖ There is no separation…ever!
❖ You will never die!
Benefits of the New Covenant of Grace
❖You are part of God’s family! His child! You belong!
(Ephesians 1:5; Hebrews 12:23; 1 John 3:1)
❖You have direct access to the Father all of the time! (Hebrews 10:19-20)
❖You are forgiven and free! (Ephesians 1:5-7)
❖God is working on your behalf all of the time! (Rom. 8:28)
❖You are blessed and highly favored! (John 1:16)
❖You have God’s entire inheritance now! (Luke 15; 1 Peter 1:3-5)
I will sprinkle you with clean water, and you will be clean. I will wash
away all of your dirtiness, and you will be clean and pure, free from
the taint of idols.  I will plant a new heart and new spirit inside of you.
I will take out your stubborn, stony heart and give you a willing,
tender heart of flesh.  And I will put My Spirit inside of you and
inspire you to live by My statutes and follow My laws.
Ezekiel 36:25-27 (VOICE)
By his one perfect sacrifice Jesus made us perfectly holy and
complete for all time! The Holy Spirit confirms this to us by this
Scripture, for the Lord says, “Afterwards,	I	will	give	them	this
covenant:	I	will	embed	my	laws	into	their	hearts	and	fasten	my
Word	to	their	thoughts.”
And then he says,“I	will	not	ever	again	remember	their	sins	and
lawless	deeds!”
So if our sins have been forgiven and forgotten, why would we
ever need to offer another sacrifice for sin?
Hebrews 10:14-18
We enter into the covenant of grace agreement by believing God.
When we do, we become one with Him.
Where does that put you?
But is this True or is it too good to be true?
Is there a confusing Contradiction??
Paul says, “But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love
with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our sins, brought
us to life with Christ—it is through grace that you have been saved—
and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in
Christ Jesus. This was to show for all ages to come, through his
goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, how extraordinarily rich he is in
grace. Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith;
not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God; not by anything
that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.”
(Ephesians 2:4-8)
Contradiction??
Jesus says, “Therefore, if anyone infringes even one of the least of
these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be
considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person
who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the
kingdom of Heaven. For I tell you, if your righteousness does
not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get
into the kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:19-20)
Contradiction??
Jesus says to the rich, young ruler,
✤ Obey the commandments
✤ Sell everything you have and give to the poor
✤ Follow me
(Matthew 19, Mark 19, Luke 18)
When asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Contradiction??
Paul says,
❖Declare that Jesus is Lord
❖Believe that God raised Jesus from the dead
❖No one who relies on this will be brought to disgrace
❖All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved
(Romans 10:9-13)
When asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Contradiction??
Jesus said,
"For if you forgive other
people when they sin against
you, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you.  But if you do
not forgive others their sins,
your Father will not forgive
your sins.”
Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV)
Paul said,
“Be kind and
compassionate to one
another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ
God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32 (NIV)
Contradiction??
Jesus is making crystal clear the inevitable result of Adam & Eve
eating from the knowledge of good and evil.
“For the thing I feared has overtaken me.” (Job 3:25)
In the garden, intimacy with God was replaced with the fear of
punishment. Jesus did not come to the world to enforce
punishment, but to reverse the curse and end the no-win covenant
of the Law to invite God's children back into true intimacy with
the Father.
Jesus was…
Alive as a human in the
time of the Old Covenant!
(Hebrews 9:15-17)
“Like a will that takes effect
when someone dies, the
new covenant was put into
action at Jesus’ death.”
The only way the old law covenant could end to begin
the new covenant of grace:
1. The old covenant had to be fulfilled completely
2. One or (in this case) both parties of the old covenant
had to die!
Jesus was…
Here to reach the
Jews first
(Matthew 15:24; 10:6)
“I have come to save the
lost sheep of Israel.”
How high can you jump?
Jesus was…
Setting up the Jewish
people for GRACE!
(Acts 2:32-41)
“Every one of you must be
baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of
your sins…that very day 3000
were added to their number.”
Jesus was…
Compassionate with
the Gentiles
(Luke 7:36-50; Mark 2:1-12)
“Seeing their faith, Jesus said
to the paralytic, ‘My child,
your sins are forgiven.’”
Jesus said
to the Jews
about their
religious
leaders…
“The scribes and the Pharisees
occupy the chair of Moses.
You must therefore do and
observe what they tell you; but
do not be guided by what they
do, since they do not practice
what they preach. They tie up
heavy burdens and lay them on
people’s shoulders, but will
they lift a finger to move them?
Not they!”
Matthew 23:2-4 (NJB)
Let me be clear, the Anointed One has set us free—not partially, but
completely and wonderfully free! We must always cherish this truth
and stubbornly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past.
I, Paul, tell you: If you think there is benefit in circumcision and
Jewish regulations, then you’re acting as though Jesus the Anointed
One is not enough.  I say it again emphatically: If you let yourselves
be circumcised you are obliged to fulfill every single one of the
commandments and regulations of the law!
Galatians 5:1-6 TPT
If you want to be made holy by fulfilling the obligations of the law,
you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off
from the Anointed One and have fallen away from the revelation of
grace! But the Holy Spirit convinces us that we have received by
faith the glorious righteousness of the Anointed One. When you’re
placed into the Anointed One and joined to him, circumcision and
religious obligations can benefit you nothing. All that matters now is
living in the faith that is activated and brought to perfection by love.
Galatians 5:1-6 TPT
Abraham, our father of faith, led the way as our pioneering
example. He believed God and the substance of his faith released
God’s righteousness to him.So those who are the true children of
Abraham will have the same faith as their father!
God’s plan all along was to bring this message of salvation to the
nations through the revelation of faith. Long ago God prophesied
over Abraham, as the Holy Scriptures say:
“Through	your	example	of	faith	all	the	nations	will	be	blessed!”
And so the blessing of Abraham’s faith is now our blessing too!
Galatians 3:6-14 (TPT)
But if you choose to live in bondage under the legalistic rule of
religion, you live under the law’s curse. For it is clearly written:
“Utterly	cursed	is	everyone	who	fails	to	practice	every	detail
and	requirement	that	is	written	in	this	law!
For the Scriptures reveal, and it is obvious, that no one achieves
the righteousness of God by attempting to keep the law, for it is
written: “Those	who	have	been	made	holy	will	live	by	faith!”
But keeping the law does not require faith, but self-effort. For the
law teaches, “If	you	practice	the	principles	of	law,	you	must	follow
all	of	them.”
Galatians 3:6-14 (TPT)
Yet, Christ paid the full price to set us free from the curse of the
law. He absorbed it completely as he became a curse in our place.
For it is written:	“Everyone	who	is	hung	upon	a	tree	is	doubly
cursed.”
Jesus, our Messiah, was cursed in our place and in so doing,
dissolved the curse from our lives, so that all the blessings of
Abraham can be poured out upon even non-Jewish believers. And
now God gives us the promise of the wonderful Holy Spirit who
lives within us when we believe in him.”
Galatians 3:6-14 (TPT)
“Shame is the fear of disconnection. It’s the fear that something
we’ve done or failed to do, an ideal that we have not lived up to,
or a goal that we have not accomplished,
makes us unworthy of connection.
Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing
that we are flawed and therefore
unworthy of love and belonging.”
~Danny Silk, Unpunishable
There are times when we all feel like we don’t belong
and that we shouldn’t be in heaven with Jesus.
But our Father has always wanted us
and Jesus established the New Covenant of Grace
that makes us truly belong forever!
Jesus took bread…broke it…and said, “Take it and eat. This is my body,
broken for you…Drink from this cup, all of you, for this is my blood, the
blood of the covenant, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. From
now on, I tell you, I shall never again drink wine until the day I drink the new
wine with you in the Kingdom of my Father.” (Matthew 26:26-29)
Dance with me my beloved, dance with me into this new journey.
Come, let me show you what you will see.
Silence no more, you will hear my roar, through you. You will feel its
vibrations and power.
What I have to say will bring change in you, around you and beyond you.
Hearts will wake up to the reality of what God’s Kingdom is all about.
Hearts will wake up to the truth of who He is and what is spoken in His
word.
Every Heaven to earth song that is sung will shake the foundations that
are not mine and strengthen the foundations that are mine.
What I will bring to the table you will be able to feast upon it and partake of
it in partnership with Me!
My heart and My passion are for you, my treasured ones!
My favor upon you is more than you will have ever anticipated or hoped for.
As you dance over the mirror of lies from the enemy, it will shatter into a
million pieces without the power to be put back together.
The new mirror I hand you is full of truth and what you see is who you
really are, lovely and precious, a child of God that I call mine.
Full length to be able to see us dancing the new dance I breathe upon you.
I am not one who wears the facade of a beast, but the truth of my glory is
being revealed as you learn to love me as I am.
The lies painted me as a harsh and hateful Father, but Love paints me as
a gentle and loving one.
That is who I have been all along but your circumstances often muddle
that picture that is now being made clearer for my Healing Truth will
obliterate the lies and preserve that Truth which you will see when you
look at yourself in the mirror I have just given you.
I am putting on you; glasses in which you will see my Heavenly
perspective, you will come up here and see from my perspective what I
see.
The strategies are my gift to you to execute at the right time by my word
and my word only.
Fresh bread, Fresh wine, brand new wineskins to be filled of Me.
At the table where my feast is laid out you will find your place and you
will taste and see that I am so, so good.
Everything I have planned since the beginning of time has been
implemented at it’s perfect time and will continue to do so.
I trust you my daughter and my son to trust me.
I am perfecting your voice to roar my name, your vision to see my
purposes and your ears to hear what I have to say to my beloved bride.
The dance is made perfect because you are in me, and I as three in ONE
is in you.
The flow is smooth because you will lean into my heart and embrace
intimacy with me.
My friendship with you is eternal, my joy unstoppable and my grace,
overflowing.
You will never be half full or half empty but always overflowing
with my love!

I will wash away all of your dirtiness, and you will be clean and pure, free from the taint of idols.  I will plant a new heart and new spirit inside of you. I will take out your stubborn, stony heart and give you a willing, tender heart of flesh.  And I will put My Spirit inside of you and inspire you to live by My statutes and follow My laws. Ezekiel 36:25-27 (VOICE)
  • 14. By his one perfect sacrifice Jesus made us perfectly holy and complete for all time! The Holy Spirit confirms this to us by this Scripture, for the Lord says, “Afterwards, I will give them this covenant: I will embed my laws into their hearts and fasten my Word to their thoughts.” And then he says,“I will not ever again remember their sins and lawless deeds!” So if our sins have been forgiven and forgotten, why would we ever need to offer another sacrifice for sin? Hebrews 10:14-18
  • 15. We enter into the covenant of grace agreement by believing God. When we do, we become one with Him. Where does that put you? But is this True or is it too good to be true? Is there a confusing Contradiction??
  • 16. Paul says, “But God, being rich in faithful love, through the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our sins, brought us to life with Christ—it is through grace that you have been saved— and raised us up with him and gave us a place with him in heaven, in Christ Jesus. This was to show for all ages to come, through his goodness towards us in Christ Jesus, how extraordinarily rich he is in grace. Because it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith; not by anything of your own, but by a gift from God; not by anything that you have done, so that nobody can claim the credit.” (Ephesians 2:4-8) Contradiction??
  • 17. Jesus says, “Therefore, if anyone infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of Heaven; but the person who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of Heaven. For I tell you, if your righteousness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of Heaven. (Matthew 5:19-20) Contradiction??
  • 18. Jesus says to the rich, young ruler, ✤ Obey the commandments ✤ Sell everything you have and give to the poor ✤ Follow me (Matthew 19, Mark 19, Luke 18) When asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Contradiction??
  • 19. Paul says, ❖Declare that Jesus is Lord ❖Believe that God raised Jesus from the dead ❖No one who relies on this will be brought to disgrace ❖All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:9-13) When asked, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Contradiction??
  • 20. Jesus said, "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:14-15 (NIV) Paul said, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 (NIV) Contradiction??
  • 21. Jesus is making crystal clear the inevitable result of Adam & Eve eating from the knowledge of good and evil. “For the thing I feared has overtaken me.” (Job 3:25) In the garden, intimacy with God was replaced with the fear of punishment. Jesus did not come to the world to enforce punishment, but to reverse the curse and end the no-win covenant of the Law to invite God's children back into true intimacy with the Father.
  • 22. Jesus was… Alive as a human in the time of the Old Covenant! (Hebrews 9:15-17) “Like a will that takes effect when someone dies, the new covenant was put into action at Jesus’ death.”
  • 23. The only way the old law covenant could end to begin the new covenant of grace: 1. The old covenant had to be fulfilled completely 2. One or (in this case) both parties of the old covenant had to die!
  • 24. Jesus was… Here to reach the Jews first (Matthew 15:24; 10:6) “I have come to save the lost sheep of Israel.”
  • 25. How high can you jump?
  • 26. Jesus was… Setting up the Jewish people for GRACE! (Acts 2:32-41) “Every one of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins…that very day 3000 were added to their number.”
  • 27. Jesus was… Compassionate with the Gentiles (Luke 7:36-50; Mark 2:1-12) “Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, ‘My child, your sins are forgiven.’”
  • 28. Jesus said to the Jews about their religious leaders… “The scribes and the Pharisees occupy the chair of Moses. You must therefore do and observe what they tell you; but do not be guided by what they do, since they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on people’s shoulders, but will they lift a finger to move them? Not they!” Matthew 23:2-4 (NJB)
  • 29. Let me be clear, the Anointed One has set us free—not partially, but completely and wonderfully free! We must always cherish this truth and stubbornly refuse to go back into the bondage of our past. I, Paul, tell you: If you think there is benefit in circumcision and Jewish regulations, then you’re acting as though Jesus the Anointed One is not enough.  I say it again emphatically: If you let yourselves be circumcised you are obliged to fulfill every single one of the commandments and regulations of the law! Galatians 5:1-6 TPT
  • 30. If you want to be made holy by fulfilling the obligations of the law, you have cut off more than your flesh—you have cut yourselves off from the Anointed One and have fallen away from the revelation of grace! But the Holy Spirit convinces us that we have received by faith the glorious righteousness of the Anointed One. When you’re placed into the Anointed One and joined to him, circumcision and religious obligations can benefit you nothing. All that matters now is living in the faith that is activated and brought to perfection by love. Galatians 5:1-6 TPT
  • 31. Abraham, our father of faith, led the way as our pioneering example. He believed God and the substance of his faith released God’s righteousness to him.So those who are the true children of Abraham will have the same faith as their father!   God’s plan all along was to bring this message of salvation to the nations through the revelation of faith. Long ago God prophesied over Abraham, as the Holy Scriptures say: “Through your example of faith all the nations will be blessed!” And so the blessing of Abraham’s faith is now our blessing too! Galatians 3:6-14 (TPT)
  • 32. But if you choose to live in bondage under the legalistic rule of religion, you live under the law’s curse. For it is clearly written: “Utterly cursed is everyone who fails to practice every detail and requirement that is written in this law! For the Scriptures reveal, and it is obvious, that no one achieves the righteousness of God by attempting to keep the law, for it is written: “Those who have been made holy will live by faith!” But keeping the law does not require faith, but self-effort. For the law teaches, “If you practice the principles of law, you must follow all of them.” Galatians 3:6-14 (TPT)
  • 33. Yet, Christ paid the full price to set us free from the curse of the law. He absorbed it completely as he became a curse in our place. For it is written: “Everyone who is hung upon a tree is doubly cursed.” Jesus, our Messiah, was cursed in our place and in so doing, dissolved the curse from our lives, so that all the blessings of Abraham can be poured out upon even non-Jewish believers. And now God gives us the promise of the wonderful Holy Spirit who lives within us when we believe in him.” Galatians 3:6-14 (TPT)
  • 34. “Shame is the fear of disconnection. It’s the fear that something we’ve done or failed to do, an ideal that we have not lived up to, or a goal that we have not accomplished, makes us unworthy of connection. Shame is the intensely painful feeling or experience of believing that we are flawed and therefore unworthy of love and belonging.” ~Danny Silk, Unpunishable
  • 35. There are times when we all feel like we don’t belong and that we shouldn’t be in heaven with Jesus. But our Father has always wanted us and Jesus established the New Covenant of Grace that makes us truly belong forever!
  • 36. Jesus took bread…broke it…and said, “Take it and eat. This is my body, broken for you…Drink from this cup, all of you, for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. From now on, I tell you, I shall never again drink wine until the day I drink the new wine with you in the Kingdom of my Father.” (Matthew 26:26-29)

I am not one who wears the facade of a beast, but the truth of my glory is being revealed as you learn to love me as I am.  The lies painted me as a harsh and hateful Father, but Love paints me as a gentle and loving one.  That is who I have been all along but your circumstances often muddle that picture that is now being made clearer for my Healing Truth will obliterate the lies and preserve that Truth which you will see when you look at yourself in the mirror I have just given you.  I am putting on you; glasses in which you will see my Heavenly perspective, you will come up here and see from my perspective what I see.
