This document proposes a new route discovery technique (NRD) for secure message delivery in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The NRD technique aims to identify reliable nodes and maintain a data routing information (DRI) table containing secure routes between nodes. Each node will apply the NRD technique to discover routes and populate its DRI table. The DRI table will then be used to select optimal paths for inter-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication. Simulation results show the proposed NRD technique reduces message overhead compared to previous methods as the number of vehicles increases from 10 to 30.
