  “ ” During student orientationstudents are told: 1) Ask for help when you need it 2) Speak up when you feel uncomfortable 3) Place your own interests / well being above those of others Because students are not given proper education in interpersonal skills, they find themselves offended faster and unable to work well with other cohorts.

  1) What isor is not offensive and off-color 2) What a true personal slight is versa a free opinion 3) To report– hear something, say something 4) Does not build necessary character in order to deal with objecting ideas/thoughts Without proper interpersonal skills and inter-cohort interactions; students entering the workplace suffer a major disadvantage. This can lead to a major wake-up call on students and frustration with business owners, management and HR personnel.

  “ ” What’s important, isn’thow I feel, it is how I make everyone else around me feel The disadvantage of not learning proper social skills is the inability to see the issue from the other side When dealing with others, the individual must be able to gauge the room and act not as a lone island ready to be offended, but as a member of a larger cohort.

  “ ” Hey wait! WhenI talk to customers why don’t they carefully craft their harsh opinions to avoid offending me? This is unfair! This is a real comment from a millennial student– In an HR complaint, they were upset a customer offend them… Comment was “Howdy, ma’am, are you keeping out of trouble today?”

  1) There areno trigger warnings when someone is about to offend you! (Deal with it!) 2) No Safe Spaces are provided in the Real-World (Deal with it!) 3) No University administrator to run to for soothing and reassurance (Deal with it!) Learning how to deal with people; the good, the bad and the very ugly allows students to grow, moreover to matured into productive adults in the workplace… cause they can DEAL WITH IT!

  1) Lacking interpersonalskills 2) Easily offended 3) Needs constant reassurance The Top three ways to lose your job is the inability to exhibit proper conduct of a mature adult. It is important to know how to work with others and deal with multiple cohorts in the workplace… or face a long career of jumping from job to job being very unhappy.

  1) Better workingwith others towards a common goal 2) Better handling anxiety and difficult situations 3) Being part of the team! By strengthening students’ character, work ethics and encourage them to be self- reliant. They will have the building blocks to be successful in their careers, cohorts and the public.
