Relationship between Estragon and
Vladimir as a Body and Soul
About the Samuel Beckett
• He was born in Dublin in 1906.
• He was poet, playwright and story
writer.
• Beckett awarded the noble prize in
1969.
• His work:
 Waiting for godot
 Endgame
 Malone die
 The Unnamable.
Waiting for Godot
• The Play “ Waiting for Godot” is a associated
with the ‘ Theatre of Absurd”.
• In this Play There are Two main character like
Vladimir and Estragon.
• Both of the character waiting for a unknown
person named Godot but at the End godot never
come.
• The play based on the idea of nothingness ,
waiting and Absurdity.
• In the Play There are not begging and not ending
and no plot and no story.
Estragon

Characters
Vladimir Estragon
boots; While Vladimir is engaged in taking off his hat, peering in it and putting
it on his head.In this play Beckett has given all the physical torments and
suffering to Estragon and give mental pain to Vladimir.
Throughout the play, we see Estragon engaged in trying to
take off and put on his boots; While Vladimir is engaged in
taking off his hat and peering in it and putting it on his head.
 Here we can say that Estragon represents the physical split
and Vladimir the mental split of the assumed person,
Estramir= Estragon+ Vladimir
Example
According Indian religion, One cannot separate
body from mind. They live together. In the
absence of one, another has no value. So,
Vladimir and Estragon always live with each
other.
Beckett unconsciously split Estramir into two
different aspects of a single person: body (Estragon)
and soul/mind (Vladimir).
Therefore, Estragon represents the body of a person,
to have simple understanding of Estramir and
Vladimir represents mind (soul) of Estramir.
So, we can say that Beckett present two leading
characters has a psychological( body) and biological(
mind) split of imaginary character named Estramir .
Conclusion
The Relationship between Estragone and Vladimir as a Body and Soul'.
