The
Steadfast
Child of
God
(Psa 51:7-10) Purge me with
hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash
me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
{8} Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken
may rejoice. {9} Hide Your face
from my sins, And blot out all my
iniquities. {10} Create in me a clean
heart, O God, And renew a
steadfast spirit within me.
STEDFAST:
Unwavering or
determined in
purpose, loyalty.
STEDFAST
A. GOD IS STEADFAST - (Dan 6:26) I make a decree
that in every dominion of my kingdom men must
tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is
the living God, And steadfast forever; His kingdom is
the one which shall not be destroyed, And His dominion
shall endure to the end.
B. GOD’S WORD IS STEADFAST - (Heb 2:1-3)
Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the
things we have heard, lest we drift away. {2} For if the
word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and
every transgression and disobedience received a just
reward, {3} how shall we escape if we neglect so great
a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the
Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
C. WE NEED TO HAVE A STEADFAST SPIRIT - (Psa
51:10) Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew
a steadfast spirit within me.
I. STEADFAST IN FAITH.
A. IN SPITE OF SUFFERING - (1 Pet 5:9) Resist
him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the
same sufferings are experienced by your
brotherhood in the world.
B. CONSISTENT IN OUR WALK - (Col 2:5-7) For
though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you
in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the
steadfastness of your faith in Christ. {6} As you
have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so
walk in Him, {7} rooted and built up in Him and
established in the faith, as you have been taught,
abounding in it with thanksgiving.
STEADFAST IN FAITH.
C. STEADFAST IN HEART W/O DOUBT
1. (Psa 57:7) My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart
is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.
2. (Psa 78:37) For their heart was not steadfast with
Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant.
3. (Psa 108:1) O God, my heart is steadfast; I will
sing and give praise, even with my glory.
4. (Psa 112:7) He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His
heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
5. (1 Cor 7:37) Nevertheless he who stands steadfast
in his heart, having no necessity, but has power
over his own will, and has so determined in his heart
that he will keep his virgin, does well.
6. (1 tim 2:8) I desire therefore that the men pray
everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath
and doubting;
II. STEADFAST IN HOPE &
CONFIDENCE.
A. HOPE FOR OTHER CHRISTIANS - (2
Cor 1:7) And our hope for you is
steadfast, because we know that as you
are partakers of the sufferings, so also
you will partake of the consolation
II. STEADFAST IN HOPE &
CONFIDENCE.
B. HOPE FOR OURSELVES IN HEAVEN - (Heb
6:17-20) Thus God, determining to show more
abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability
of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, {18} that
by two immutable things, in which it is impossible
for God to lie, we might have strong consolation,
who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope
set before us. {19} This hope we have as an
anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast,
and which enters the Presence behind the veil,
{20} where the forerunner has entered for us,
even Jesus, having become High Priest forever
according to the order of Melchizedek.
II. STEADFAST IN HOPE &
CONFIDENCE
C. HOPE THROUGH THE GOSPEL - (Col 1:23)
if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded
and steadfast, and are not moved away from
the hope of the gospel which you heard, which
was preached to every creature under heaven,
of which I, Paul, became a minister.
D. CONFIDENCE IN ENTERING GOD’S REST
(HEAVEN) - (Heb 3:14) For we have become
partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of
our confidence steadfast to the end,
III. STEADFAST IN WORSHIP
A. STEADFAST IN ASSEMBLING TOGETHER
1. (Acts 1:12-14) Then they returned to Jerusalem from
the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a
Sabbath day's journey. {13} And when they had
entered, they went up into the upper room where they
were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip
and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the
son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the
son of James. {14} These all continued with one
accord in prayer and supplication, with the women
and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.
2. (Heb 10:24-25) And let us consider one another in
order to stir up love and good works, {25} not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as
is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and
so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
III. STEADFAST IN WORSHIP
B. STEAD FAST IS STUDY, FELLOWSHIP,
COMMUNION & PRAYERS - (Acts 2:42) And
they continued steadfastly in the apostles'
doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of
bread, and in prayers.
C. STEADFAST IN PRAYER - (Rom 12:12)
rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation,
continuing steadfastly in prayer;
IV. STEADFAST IN OBEDIENCE
A. IN KEEPING GOD’S COMMANDS - (1
Chr 28:7) 'Moreover I will establish his
kingdom forever, if he is steadfast to
observe My commandments and My
judgments, as it is this day.'
IV. STEADFAST IN OBEDIENCE
B. IN HOLY CONDUCT & GODLINESS - (2 Pet 3:9-18)
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some
count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing
that any should perish but that all should come to
repentance. {10} But the day of the Lord will come as a
thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with
a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat;
both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned
up. {11} Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved,
what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct
and godliness, {12} looking for and hastening the coming
of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be
dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with
fervent heat? {13} Nevertheless we, according to His
promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which
righteousness dwells. >>>
IV. STEADFAST IN OBEDIENCE
{14} Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things,
be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and
blameless; {15} and consider that the longsuffering of
our Lord is salvation; as also our beloved brother Paul,
according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,
{16} as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these
things, in which are some things hard to understand,
which untaught and unstable people twist to their own
destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
{17} You therefore, beloved, since you know this
beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own
steadfastness, being led away with the error of the
wicked; {18} but grow in the grace and knowledge of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both
now and forever. Amen.
IV. STEADFAST IN OBEDIENCE
C. FROM THE HEART - (Rom 6:16-18) Do you
not know that to whom you present yourselves
slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom
you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of
obedience leading to righteousness? {17} But
God be thanked that though you were slaves of
sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form
of doctrine to which you were delivered.
{18} And having been set free from sin, you
became slaves of righteousness.
V. STEADFAST IN OUR WORK.
A. ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF
THE LORD - (1 Cor 15:58) Therefore, my
beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that your labor is not in vain in the
Lord.
1. ABOUNDING IN BENEVOLENCE
2. ABOUNDING IN EDIFICATION
3. ABOUNDING IN EVANGELISM
V. STEADFAST IN OUR WORK.
B. NOT GROWING WEARY IN DOING
GOOD
1. (Gal 6:9) And let us not grow weary
while doing good, for in due season
we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
2. (2 Th 3:13) But as for you, brethren,
do not grow weary in doing good.
