Tragedies typically involve a character who is severely ill and near death, with a friend or family member trying to keep them motivated. Such stories commonly use dull colors and natural lighting to set a somber mood, and follow a stereotypical narrative structure involving a romantic element. More recently, tragedies have been based on true stories to generate more audience attention and allow for an emotional connection, such as the movie "Letters to God" which was inspired by a sick child who wrote letters to God.

- 2. Convention – Usually tragedies involve someone being severely sick and having little time left before they pass away. Stereotypically the character which is sick in some way has a friend/partner/family member which is doing everything they can to keep them motivated. Usually dull colours are used to set a mood for the audience and natural / no lighting is used. The narrative structure is also stereotypical and as told by Todorov most tragedies have a romantic link to them. TRAGEDY
- 3. Inspirational – Tragedies are more commonly becoming linked with true stories to generate more attention from the audience. What I find inspirational is using true stories as a base for movie making. It allows the audience to create a connection with the movie and have a emotional link. A example of this is ‘’letters to God’’ which is based on a true story about a sick child which likes to write letters to God. TRAGEDIES
