he/she is trained well.
 It is fruitful to both employers and employees of an
organization.
Training methods
A. On-the-job Training Methods:
 Coaching
 Mentoring
 Job Rotation
 Job Instruction Technology
 Apprenticeship
B. Off-the-Job Training Methods:
 Lectures and Conferences
 Vestibule Training
 Simulation Exercises
 Web-based Training
 Video conferencing
•A large variety of
methods of training
are used in business.
•Even within one
organization different
methods are used for
training different
people.
Off-the-job training
 Off-the-job training methods are conducted in separate from
the job environment.
 Study materials are supplied.
 There is full concentration on learning rather than
performing, and there is freedom of expression.
Web based training
 Many employers are turning to online employee training for a
hands-on, interactive way for employees to learn.
 It is more economical in both time and money than conventional
training.
 This form of training has become more and more popular as
Internet technology has improved and Web access has become
easier.
 The American Society for Training and Development (ASTD)
estimates that nearly 75% of learning content made available is in
the form of E-learning.
Conti..
 Web-based training (sometimes called e-learning) is anywhere,
any-time instruction delivered over the Internet or a corporate
intranet to browser-equipped learners.
 There are two primary models of Web-based instruction:
Synchronous (instructor-facilitated)
Asynchronous (self-directed, self-paced)
 Instruction can be delivered by a combination of :
Static methods (learning portals, hyperlinked pages, screen cam
tutorials, streaming audio/video, and live Web broadcasts)
Interactive methods (discussions, chats, and desk-top video
conferencing).
Role of Internet & Intranet in OJT
 Internet makes it possible for HR professionals to train new staff
members in an efficient manner.
 The intranet facilitates to access the company’s information and
training programs from remote locations by eliminating the need for
trainers to work directly with new hires.
 Training in virtual classrooms through Intranet makes it possible for
the HR professionals to train a large number of employees quickly
and to assess their progress through computerized testing programs.
Conti..
 No matter which shift an employee works, training is always
available anywhere there is an Internet connection, which makes
these programs effective for training across multiple locations.
 Web browsers that support 3-D virtual reality, animation,
interactions, chat and conferencing, and real-time audio and
video will offer effective training opportunities.
 Online employee training also makes tracking results easier that is
an employer is better able to see who has completed training and
review their scores.
Example- HP
Hp is training their employees through Web Based Training
Systems.
 It is the best way in which they can provide same type of
training to their employees in different areas of world.
They have also developed software programmed through which
the can learn how to diagnose the problem on our workstation or
operating systems. (HP Vision Field Diagnostics Web-Based
Training Utility)
Example - IBM
 IBM is a company that gives value to the learning and development
of its employees since 1915.
 It has a separate and distinct IBM education department (IBM
Kenexa) which was established to train and develop employees.
 IBM is known for the use of e-learning programs to address its
learning solutions.
 The learning approaches used in IBM programs are learning from
interaction, SAP training, 3D virtual Reality, simulation or games,
collaborative learning, etc.
 IBM is also well-known for its program ‘IBM Connections'. which
helps new hires to stay connected online with their colleagues and
become aware about IBM softwares.
Thank you !!

  • #6 Employee training at the place of work while he or she is doing the actual job. Usually a professional trainer (or sometimes an experienced employee) serves as the course instructor using hands-on training often supported by formal classroom training.
  • #10 A virtual classroom is an online classroom that allows participants to communicate with one another, view presentations or videos, interact with other participants, and engage with resources in work groups.
