Twitter alone is not a marketing strategy Make sure you understand Twitter etiquette Make sure you have the resources (time & bodies) Twitter should be another tool in your event marketing strategy. Twitter will not save your event if you have not done your homework Twitter should complement your event marketing strategy.

Before the event Get others to talk for you Coordinate with event partners to generate buzz Get speakers to mention event to their followers Share related news Provide an advance of event: video interviews with speakers Give away tickets to event through Twitter Take advantage of news stories that relate to event to bring attention to your event and share with your followers! Share photos of event set up, etc. Pick a good hashtag. No hyphens!  Pitch an event to journalists through Twitter: be careful, considerate, and learn when to stop!

  • #4: Informal &amp; spontaneous: easier to start a relationship/conversation with influencers and others you don’t know personally News that don’t merit a news story or press release are perfect for Twitter Tons of great applications to track your new followers (Crowdbooster), those who stop following you (Quitter), how influential you are (Klout), etc.
  • #6: Twitter should not be your marketing strategy. It should complement your event mailings, promotions etc.
  • #7: Integrate twitter into all of your communication vehicles: If you send an email announcement, you can easily integrate Twitter into it. Any of you using Vertical Response? VR allows you to add social media buttons to all of your newsletters and even add a hashtag automatically when people tweet your newsletter. Also remind participants that they are welcome use twitter and share their thoughts.
