The Web Server is used to hold and publish
your website on the internet. It is the heart of
the internet.
The web browser is an application program which
is used to display your web pages . It
understands the HTML code and displays the
layout of your page.

A web page is created as an HTML document,
accessible on the world wide web. That means
the document is present on a web server which
has its own web address or URL .
WEB BROWSER
A website is a collection of HTML documents
that you have created and that other users can
access with a web browser. It is a way of
presenting oneself online. The first page
usually requested when visiting a website is
called the home page. The home page contains
a summary of the web pages and their
purposes . It is like an index page of your
exercise book. For example, Google.com is a
common website which is used in today’s
modern world.

Hyperlink is an element that links atopic to

entirely different document. It can be text or
an image. When a site visitor clicks on the
hyperlink, the topic/destination is displayed
on the next browser window. They are shown
on the next slide .

HTML is a descriptive markup language that
describes the structure and behaviour of a web
document . An HTML document is in the plain
text format and can be created in any text
editor. Example : Notepad, Wordpad. The HTML
document written on the Notepad is shown in
the next slide.

A Protocol is a set of rules defining a standard
of communication. The HHTP protocol is used
for retrieving HTML documents on the World
Wide Web. It is one of the popular protocols
used for communication between computers.
FTP [FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOLS]
It is a standard software used to send files to a
web server. When you click on a hyperlink file
on a Web Page that allows you to download a
file, the FTP is used to transfer that file to your
hard disk drive.
 URL [UNIFORM RESOURCE
LOCATOR]
It locates the document to be retrieved when
a user clicks on a hypertext link. A URL is
similar to a file name except that, in this case,
the file can be on the same machine or on a
different machine in the network.
TO GET ONLINE AND SURF THE WEB WE
SHOULD FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING STEPS.
1. Start the computer.
2. Open your internet access software
3. Initiate the connection.
4. Once you get connected, access the web
.browser.
5. Type the URL or the web site address in the
address bar or else use a search engine, if
you are not sure of the Web site.

its database to find items, the text of which
contains all or a least one of the words given
to search for. The home page for each search
engine contains a text box in which you can
type a relevant word or phrase. Click on a
button labelled search or submit and the
search begins.
