Unit 14 lo4
Witness statement
On the side are my witness statement, these were completed during I presented my pitch for my
magazine. Looking over this I can see that there is possible improvements that I could make so that I
might be able to do better when presenting it. Further to this, it goes over my strengths and
weaknesses of my pitch.
Feedback
From looking over my witness statement, I got
feedback from my teacher, this had good parts and
bad parts from my pitch explaining what I needed to
add to improve it. For example, all of the things that
I had completed and the ‘what went well’ were all in
green and areas that I needed to improve on were
highlighted in yellow. To make sure that I have all
green, this would meant that I would have to go back
over my work and possibly add more detail for
example. An example of this is that I didn't’t go into
detail on how I will be marketing my magazine, so to
overcome this I would go with the idea of using
certain social media platforms such as Snapchat,
Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Using these would
allow people to stay up to date with new knowledge
on the magazine and the content. The reason to why
I have chosen these media platforms is because of
the amount of people that are using these apps on a
daily basis.
Corrections to double page spread
For this correction I was recommended that I keep the colour scheme the same
when looking at the front cover. This was a very simple change to my double
page spread, I did it by press command T and then clicking on the text boss and
then changing the colour to yellow which goes along with my front cover.

Font Styles
MO magazine fonts
For MO magazine I have chosen these fonts because they reflect my
intentions with this magazine, as you can see with some of my chosen fonts
are more suited to my audience. Looking at font number three, it definitely
target my audience of the socio-economic needs table which was from C2-
E, this has an age range of about 15-25 meaning that I will need to make
sure that my fonts are more informal as it will attract the targeted audience.
House Style - MO
Colour scheme
For MO magazine I will be using monochrome with hints of yellow. This is
because using black and white will show the contrast of my magazine and
how my magazine can bring sunlight to the darkness using the hints of
yellow. I have decided to using yellow because I connotes sunlight and
joyfulness.
Font style
For MO magazine I will be using the font style is known as ‘Arial rounded MT
bold’. The reason for this is, I think that is a great font to go with my
masthead, also because of my younger targeted audience as the font is
rounded and bold it shows the informal side to my magazine, as I don’t
intend on targeting anyone over the age of 25 and that aren't in the socio-
economic needs sector that I have chosen.
Social media
MO magazine will be a synergy with all social medias. This is because I will
then be able to reach out to a lot more people and possibly on a global scale
eventually. Using the most popular social medias such as Instagram, Snapchat
and twitter to promote and give my audience updates and possible
exclusives.
Risk assessment
What I needed in my photo shoot for my magazine:
• Camera – this was so that I would be able to take a picture of my model (Frankie McBrien).
• Mobile phone – so I would be able to contact my model to tell him the details of the photo shoot.
• Checklist – to make sure that I had everything for the shoot.
• I had to confirm ownership of the room that we were using for the pictures, this was so that people
wouldn't’t enter when we were taking pictures.
• I had to explain my intentions for using the room so that we would be able to access it.
• As the model, Frankie did have a dress code for the Photo shoot.
• Neighbour disturbance – we had to make sure that we weren't disturbing others as we had to make sure
that we were being considerate of our surroundings.
• Depending on how long we were going to be there just incase we had toilets within a good distance if
anyone needed a break.
• Take photo – as the director I had to be the one who was taking the picture
• Additional contributors – I had help from Miss Stevens. This was so that I was able to get some important
advice where I would be able to get better photos.

Post-production skills
• I used the software Photoshop 2015.5 to create my front cover,
double page spread and back page advertisement. I used this desktop
publishing software because it has features to help my magazine look
professional. Some of the tools I used were the quick selection tool
to crop the background out of the image professionally, the magic
wand tool to take away the white areas on the social media logos and
I used the bucket tool to change the background. These tools were
used to help my magazine look professional.
Safe working practices
• When working on the desktop publishing software I had to make sure
I follow safe working practices. Therefore, when resizing an image I
made sure I held down shift and resized from a corner. I did this so my
image would not pixelate and then end up looking unprofessional.
• Furthermore, to get the same consistent colour across all pages I
made sure I used the eyedropper tool and colour swatches.
• Lastly, I use the ruler tool and ruler lines to make sure my work
looked as neat and professional as possible. For example, lining up my
cover lines down the left and right hand side of the page.
Deadlines
Deadline for the magazine to be finished and proofread is Friday June
29th. This is a good day because it is at the end of the week so gives the
people working on the job the whole week. The magazine will then be
launched the following Monday.
Calendar events
On the 30th of June 2018 my magazine will be available.
The reason to why I chose this specific date to publish my
magazine is because it will be the only thing that will be
the only event which will allow my magazine to gain more
attention due to there being no other distractions. As it is
the end of the month it will mean that people will still
have the money to buy the magazine. Due to it being
published on a Friday means that it will be great for
people to buy as it is the end of the week and people will
want to chill out and read the magazine.
Subscription services
MO magazine will have a subscription service set up after its first issue is successful.
The reason for this is because it will give me the chance to see how successful my
magazine was by seeing the amount of subscriptions I will get in a week. Further to
this, I main reason I have chosen to have a subscription service is because it will
give my followers a chance to know everything leading up to a new release of my
magazine and also it will be sent to whom subscribes. This is a great component to
success because it gives the magazine to grow in popularity due to the services we
provide if you are to
Proof-reading and sub editing
• I had to make sure I proof read my front cover, double page spread
and back page advertisement. I will also get my work professionally
proof read and this is evident in my production plan, this will take
place on 28th June and 29th June. Proof reading is really important to
maintain professionalism.
