This will be a presentation that shows the camera
equipment and settings we will be using while
creating our short film for Unit 5
A digital single-lens reflex camera is a digital camera
that combines the optics, and the mechanisms of a
single-lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor.
The reflex design scheme is the primary difference
between a DSLR and other digital cameras. This
equipment can be used to film a multitude of different
shots wide angles, to close ups, to OTS shots. This is
because it is handheld and can be used more up-close
with actors or objects.
Drone photography is the capture of still
images and video by a remotely-operated
or autonomous unmanned aerial
vehicle (UAV), also known as an
unmanned aircraft system (UAS) or, more
commonly, as a drone. This is used to film
establishing shots of cities.
A camcorder is a self-contained
portable electronic device with
video capture and recording as
its primary function. It can be
used by armatures for films
with a very small budget as
they are cheap but extremely
lightweight and useful.
Meaning you can easily pick it
up and record.
A smartphone camera is just a
good as a camera if not better at
some times. Everyone in the
world owns a smartphone in
some sort of way, and the
increase in camera quality in
newer iPhone and Samsung
show case how easy it can be for
someone to start filming. They
can also be used to film extreme
close up shots or hard to reach
shots.
A prosumer camera is a mix of a
consumer and professional
camera, as its name implies. ...
Additionally, manual focus on a
prosumer model is typically
controlled via a built-in menu on
the body of the camera rather
than by rotating the lens as you
would with a traditional
professional camera. These can
be used by online content
creators or beginners into the
craft of film making.
A tripod is a portable three-
legged frame or stand, used
as a platform for supporting
the weight and maintaining
the stability of some other
object.
Dolly cam A camera dolly cam is a
wheeled cart or similar device used in
filmmaking and television production to
create smooth horizontal camera
movements. The camera is mounted to
the dolly and the camera operator and
focus puller, or camera assistant usually
ride on the dolly to push the dolly back
and forth
A jib is a special kind of crane at the end of which you attach a camera;
there's a counterweight at the other end for balance. It's used to
capture a variety of shots, such as overhead or long sweeping moves,
and can film a complete 360 degree shot.
In filmmaking and video production, a
crane shot is a shot taken by a camera on
a moving crane or jib. Most cranes
accommodate both the camera and an
operator, but some can be moved by
remote control.
The slider has a movable "carriage" that
you can attach directly to your camera, or
you can attach a tripod head between your
camera and the carriage for more panning
and angle options. ... Camera sliders can
also be used to create "reveal shots." A
reveal shot is a camera movement that
exposes more (or less) of a scene
Wide Lens
A wide-angle lens has a focal length of
35 mm or shorter, which gives you a
wide field of view. The wider your field of
view, the more of the scene you'll be able
to see in the frame. These lenses are
ideal for many scenarios and most
photographers have at least one trusty
wide-angle lens in their kit.
Telephoto lens
A telephoto lens is a long-focus lens
that allows photographers to utilize a
focal length that is in fact shorter than
the lens' physical length. ... Some
telephoto lenses can even attach to a
smartphone camera
fisheye lens
A fisheye is an extreme wide-angle lens
that produces a 180°-degree field of
view with the intent to create
panoramic or hemispherical images. Its
name was first coined in 1906 by Robert
W. Wood, an American physicist and
inventor who likened the effect of a
fisheye lens to the world-view of a fish
underwater.
Standard lens
A standard lens is a prime lens with a
focal length roughly equivalent to the
length of the diagonal measurement of
the sensor (or film). A standard lens on a
full-frame camera would have a focal
length of 42mm. It is a lens that
produces a field of view that is like the
human eye or appears natural.
•LAVALIER MICROPHONE
LAVALIER MICROPHONES – ALSO KNOWN AS LAPEL MICS OR
CLIP-ON MICS – ARE SMALL WIRED MICROPHONES THAT ARE
WIDELY USED IN FILMMAKING AND BROADCASTING. THEY
ARE IDEAL FOR RECORDING DIALOGUE AS THEY ARE
DISCREET AND UNOBTRUSIVE AND CAN BE POSITIONED CLOSE
TO THE MOUTH WHILE REMAINING OUT OF SIGHT
•SHOTGUN MICROPHONE
SHOTGUN MICROPHONES ARE ESSENTIAL TOOLS IN THE
WORLD OF PROFESSIONAL FILM AND VIDEO PRODUCTION.
THEIR NARROW PICKUP PATTERNS ARE EXCELLENT FOR
CAPTURING SPECIFIC SPEAKERS AND SOUNDS IN ANY
SITUATION.
•BOOM MICROPHONE
A BOOM MIC HAS A HIGHLY DIRECTIONAL POLAR PATTERN
AND IS POSITIONED AT THE END OF A BOOM POLE. THESE
MICS ARE STAPLES IN FILM AND VIDEO. THEY ARE HIGHLY
DIRECTIONAL (PICK UP SOUND WHERE THEY POINT TO AND
REJECT OFF-AXIS SOUNDS).
•WIRELESS MICROPHONE
WE ALL KNOW WIRELESS MICROPHONES PROVIDE A HIGH
LEVEL OF CONVENIENCE AND FLEXIBILITY, AND THEY
CERTAINLY CAN KEEP A STAGE LOOKING CLEAN. IF YOUR
SETUP FEATURES THE VOCALISTS OUT TOWARDS THE FRONT
OF THE STAGE AND YOU WANT TO KEEP WIRES AT BAY, A
WIRELESS MIC SYSTEM IS A GREAT OPTION
• WE BEGAN LEARNING HOW TO CHANGE THE APERTURE BY WATCHING A USEFUL VIDEO
THAT HELPED US UNDERSTAND WHAT APERTURE IS AND HOW TO ACCESS IT ON A
CAMERA. AFTER THIS, WE BEGAN TO MESS WITH THE APERTURE SETTINGS ON OUR
OWN CAMERA TO MANIPULATE AND CHANGE THE BRIGHTNESS AND SHADOWS IT THE
SHOT. BOTH VIDEOS SHOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE APERTURE TURNED ALL THE
WAY UP AND ALL THE WAY DOWN. THIS CAN BE USED WHILE SHOOTING A FILM TO
ACHIEVE SHALLOW DEPTHS OF FIELD
•

High Shutter speed Low Shutter speed
•DIFFERENT FRAME RATES YIELD DIFFERENT VIEWING EXPERIENCES AND CHOOSING A
FRAME RATE OFTEN MEANS THINKING ABOUT MULTIPLE FACTORS, SUCH AS HOW
REALISTIC YOU WANT YOUR VIDEO TO LOOK OR WHETHER YOU PLAN TO USE
TECHNIQUES LIKE SLOW MOTION OR MOTION-BLUR EFFECTS. MOST MOVIES
(INCLUDING OURS) ARE FILMED AT 24 FRAMES PER SECOND BECAUSE IT USES LESS
FILM THEN SHOOTING 60 FRAMES PER SECOND. IN A DIGITAL WORD THIS DOES NOT
HAVE THE SAME IMPACT, BUT IN THE FILM, WORLD GOING FROM 24 TO 60 FRAMES
COULD MEAN A HUGE COST IN EXPENDITURES. MOST ANIMATION IS CREATED AT 12
FRAMES PER SECOND IT USES LESS RESOURCES WHILE CREATING A SMOOTH SCENE.
•24fps is usually best for movies, 30fps is usually best for TV productions
(such as news, drama and documentaries) whilst 60fps is better for sports
footage.THE DLSR CAMERA DID ALLOW US TO FILM UP TO 60 FRAMES PER SECOND.
HOWEVER, AFTER SOME RESEARCH WE DECIDED TO FILM IN 24 FRAMES PER SECOND
AS THAT WOULD BE BEST FOR CINEMATIC QUALITY FOOTAGE.
