Definition of unit plan

“ A unit is a comperhensive and significant aspect
of the environment of an orgaized science and
art”
2.Acc. To Preston
“ A unit is a large a block of related subject
matter as can be overviewed by the learner”
3. acc. To samford
“A unit is an outline of carefully selected subject
matter which has been isolated because of its
relationships to pupuils needs and interests.
Characteristics of good unit plan
1. It should take the in to account the needs, the
interests and the capabilities.
2. It should provide a variety of field trips,
experiments, demonstration and project etc.
3. The material of the unit plan should consists of
familier and related topics.
4.It should be related to the social and physical
environment of the children.
5.It should provide new experiences which the
children not experience earlier.
6. The pervious knowledge, experience and
background of the pupils should be given due
importance.
7. It shoudid help and satisfy some of the furture
needs of the children.
8. It should be the result of the co-operative
planning of the teacher and pupils as far as
possible.
9. The length of the unit shoud be such as to
maintain the interest of the students.
10.It should be flexible.
Merits of unit Plan
1. Unit planning provide opportunit fro continutiy
in learning.
2. It develops scientfic attitude, problem-solving,
critical thinking, skills and scientific inquiry
among the children.
3. It helps in the selection of new activites
experiences for classroom use.
4. It psycholgically sound approch for effective
teaching learning process.
5. It develops the qualities like self-confidence,
presistece, security etc in the students.
6. It is also flexible to deal with a wide range of
learning situations.
7.It facilites the use of a wide range of resource such
as labortary equipments,charts , films,referene
magterial as an intergeral part of the learning
experience.
8.It provide opprtunity to the teacher to do
experimnts with his over ideas in colaboration
with pupils.
9.While keeping in mind the mental development
of child, the teacher can present subject matter in
a systematic, loagical and effective mannner.
Demeris of unit plan
1. Planning of unit is not easky task.
2. There is lack of freshness.
3. It is time consuming.
4. Overburdening of teacher with written work.
5. Teching becomes mechanical.
6. Use of guide sheets tends to make learning
monotonous and steresotyed
