2. MALARIA VACCINE
The only approved vaccine, as of 2021, is RTS,S, known by the
brand name Mosquirix.
It requires four injections.
Research continues with other malaria vaccines. The most effective
malaria vaccine is R21/Matrix-M, with a 77% efficacy rate shown in
initial trials and significantly higher antibody levels than with the
RTS,S vaccine.
It is the first vaccine that meets the World Health Organization’s
(WHO) goal of a malaria vaccine with at least 75% efficacy.
VACCINE TYPE :- protein subunit
4. RTS VACCINE
It consists of the P. falciparum circumsporozoite protein (CSP) from
the pre-erythrocytic stage.
The CSP antigen causes the production of antibodies capable of
preventing the invasion of hepatocytes and additionally elicits a
cellular response enabling the destruction of infected hepatocytes.
5. In October 2021, the vaccine was endorsed by the World Health
Organization for "broad use" in children, making it the first malaria vaccine
to receive this recommendation.
SCEHUDULE : 3 doses initial series with a min interval of 4 wks btw doses
followed by 4th dose at 15- 18 month after 3rd dose is
recommended
The first dose should be administered as close as possible to age of 5th
month and 3rd
dose should be completed by 9 month of age .
6. HPV VACCINE
Two HPV vaccines are licensed by the FDA and recommended by
CDC. These vaccines are Cervarix (made by GlaxoSmithKline) and
Gardasil (made by Merck).
Both vaccines are very effective against HPV types 16 and 18,
which cause most cervical cancers.
So both vaccines prevent cervical cancer in women.
Both vaccines are very safe. Both vaccines are made with very
small parts of the human papillomavirus (HPV) that cannot cause
infection
7. Only one of the vaccines (Gardasil) protects against HPV types 6 and 11
These types can cause most genital warts in females and males.
Only one of the vaccines (Gardasil) has been tested and licensed for use in
males.
IAP recommends that all girls who are 11 or 12 years old get the 2 doses
6 months apart of either brand of HPV vaccine to protect against cervical cancer.
Gardasil also protects against most genital warts, as well as some cancers
of the vulva, vagina, and anus.
Girls and young women ages 14 years or older should get 3 doses of an HPV
vaccine(garasil) at 0, 2 & 6 months & for cervarix at 0,1 & 6 months if they have
not received all doses yet.
8. Gardasil also protects against most genital warts, as well as some
cancers of the vulva, vagina, and anus.
Girls and young women ages 14 years or older should get 3 doses
of an HPV vaccine(gardasil) at 0, 2 & 6 months & for cervarix at 0,1

• Newer vaccines for HPV is gardasil 9 and cervavac
• Gardasil 9 protects against 9 serotypes[6,11,16,18,31,33,45,52,58] and
cervavac protects against 4 serotypes [6,11,16,18].
