Question 1

In what ways does your media
products use, develop and challenge
forms and conventions of real media
             products?
USE

              TEXT/FONT

      LANDSCAPE
      LAYOUT

STEEL TONGS
USE
• Text/Font: The font I have used for the name of my film is a very similar font to the
one on the horror film poster ‘Let Me In’. This type of eroded, distorted text is popular
in horror films as it fits the genre very well and is quite a typical convention of horror.
• Landscape Layout: I decided to make my poster on a landscape page layout, the
same as the ‘Let Me In’ horror film poster. As there are many other landscape film
posters, this is obviously and effective method to use, which is why I used this layout.
• Steel Tongs: The steels tongs font on my poster is similar to the one on the ‘Let Me
In’ poster. The placement and size of the text is the same, showing that this is a
typical convention of a film poster, which is why I have used it in this way, to make the
    poster look more professional.

DEVELOP
• Photos: On my film poster I have used a lot more photos than on the horror
film poster ‘Let Me In’. By using more photos it shows more narrative within
the trailer, therefore gives the audience a better idea of what the film is
    about .
• Colour Gradient: The ‘Let Me In’ film poster have used a blue/white tinge on
top of the poster, where as I have used a gradient to make the edges of the
poster darker, giving it a creepy horror effect, therefore it fits the genre well.
• Title Layout: The colours of the title and slugline are similar, but I have used
brighter colours and more red. The more red makes it fit in with the genre
more, making it more horror and effective.

CHALLENGE
• Casting: The ‘Let Me In’ horror film poster has not included the stars/casting, but I
have decided to include these on my poster. This advertises the film more if it shows
the stars and actors that are in it.
• Title Layout: The placement of the title on the ‘Let Me In’ poster takes up a lot of the
page with a horizontal layout. I have put my text landscape and just used one word,
therefore it doesn’t take up as much room, and shows the photos more.
• Colours on Photos: The colours on my photos have quite a few different colours in
them, whereas the ‘Let Me In’ poster only uses black and white on the photos. By
using more colours, I think I have captures horror well as there is a picture with blood
on it, and you can see the colour, making the blood look more realistic.
