The Toolbox
The tool box is a floating pallet that can be dragged along any section of a canvas.
The marquee tools are one of 3 selection tools. Left click and drag mouse over area that you would want to select. Marching ants will appear.
The rectangular marquee tool selects an area that can be retouched. Here the brightness control is being used on just the selected area.
Click on Deselect to remove any marching ants before moving on to next function.
The magnetic lasso tool is used to select a specific area or object in the photograph. The magnet will help follow the entire perimeter of the object.
The object then becomes an individually selected area that can be moved using the move tool.
You can move the selected object anywhere on the composition.
Pick the crop tool & drag a box over the image to remove an area of the photo that you do want. The size of the box can be adjusted by pulling the square shaped handles.
The spot healing brush tool can be used to cover up the light spots shown on the photo here.
Zoom into the area where the spot is located and click directly onto the spot. The tool will apply the surrounding color to the spot to cover it up.
The clone tool can also cover up the spot. Pick the clone tool and define a source area by pressing the Alt key and clicking the area that you want to clone from.
Then apply the cloned area to the white spot, notice that it is red now.
The eraser tool will erase a specific area of the photo, leaving behind a background color in it’s place. This can be set and is located in the bottom square on the bottom of the tool box.
The blur tool will blur a specific area chosen.
The smudge tool will smudge all of the colors together in a specific area.
The hand tool can be used to move to specific areas of your photo, when zoomed in, and if doubled clicked it will bring your photo back to it’s original size.
The magic wand tool can be used to select an enclosed area.
Then you can use the move tool to move the selected area.
The brush tool will apply paint to your photo. You can change the color in the foreground square located on the bottom of your tool box.
The color replacement tool will strategically replace the color in the photo with another color of your choice.
The gradient tool will apply a gradation between two colors that you specify. The opacity level must be reduced in order for the gradient to be transparent.
The paint bucket tool can be used to color in a specified area.
The dodge tool will lighten an area of the photograph to give the effect of decreased light exposure.
The burn tool will darken an area of the photograph to give the effect of increased light exposure.
The sponge tool will subtly change the color saturation in an area. If the composition was in grey scale mode, the sponge would increase or decrease the contrast.
The text tool will apply text to your composition. You can change the font, style and point under the top menu bar.
The Line tool and other shape tools will allow you to place various shapes on your composition.
The eye dropper tool can be used to steal color from a certain area of the photograph so that you can ad it to another.
The measure tool can be used to measure areas of your composition. You will find the measurements located under the top menu bar.
The zoom tool will zoom in or zoom out of your composition.
The foreground color can be changed by clicking on the top square located at the bottom of the tool box. Click on the back square to change the background color .
