Verbs A verb is one of the most important parts of the sentence. It tells the subjects actions, events, or state of being.  It is always found in the predicate of a sentence.
Action Verbs An action verb shows what the subject is PHYSICALLY doing. These are actions that you can see being done. Examples: Jump Kick Swallow Race Dance Swing Write Bellow Fly Cough Flap Erase

Linking Verbs A linking verb connects the subject to a noun or an adjective in the predicate. Linking verbs are often  form of to be MEMORIZE the following linking verbs: is, am, are, was, were, will be, been
Linking Verbs Linking verbs may also deal with the five senses Look, feel, taste, smell, sound Linking verbs may reflect a state of being: appear, seem, become, grow, turn, prove, remain These words are dangerous since they can be action verbs.  BE CAREFUL.  There must be a noun or adjective following it to be linking.
Helping Verbs Helping verbs (also known as auxiliary or modal verbs) work to help or complete the main verb. These verbs include: have, has, had, do, did, could, might, may, must, have to, ought to, shall, will, would, should When used as a helping verb, it must be used with another verb.

Perfect Tenses Past perfect represents an action/state that began in the past and was completed the past during a specific time period She had served as a nurse in the Civil War. (specific time period) I had studied health during my first semester in the sixth grade.  You must use the helping verb HAD.
Perfect tenses Future perfect tense represents an action/state that will START in the future and will END at a SPECIFIC TIME. I will have studied for this test for three hours tonight. You must use the helping verbs WILL HAVE in front of the main verb.
