•Tuition and educational fees have historically and continue to outpace the rate of inflation (CPI).
•Recessions would observationally seem to have an impact on the tuition and educational fees charged by Virginia’s
Colleges and Universities.
•The year immediately following or shortly thereafter, tuition and education fees seem to experience rather robust
increases in price; as economic conditions improve, those price increases begin to retrench. Pattern seems to hold
during each of the three recessions observed between years 1990-2014.
