- 3. Virtualization Architecture • A Virtual machine (VM) is an isolated runtime environment (guest OS and applications) •Multiple virtual systems (VMs) can run on a single physical system
- 4. Hypervisor • A hypervisor, a virtual machine manager/monitor (VMM), or virtualization manager, is a program that allows multiple operating systems to share a single hardware host, controlling the host processor and resources.
- 5. Benefits of Virtualization • Sharing of resources helps cost reduction. • Encapsulation: Virtual machines encapsulate a complete computing environment.

- 10. Cloud Computing SaaS • The capability provided to the consumer is to use the provider’s applications running on a cloud infrastructure. • Saas alleviates the burden of software maintenance/support.
- 11. Cloud Computing PaaS • The capability provided to the consumer is to deploy onto the cloud infrastructure consumer-created or acquired applications created using programming languages, libraries, services, and tools supported by the provider.
- 12. Cloud Computing IaaS The capability provided to the consumer is to provision processing, storage, networks, and other fundamental computing resources where the consumer is able to deploy and run arbitrary software, which can include operating systems and applications.
- 13. Virtualization Versus Cloud Computing • Broadly speaking, these two technologies share a common bond: • They are both meant to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. • They are quite different though: • Virtualization is one of the elements that forms cloud computing.
