Futurism.com posts about the latest news, infographics,
and videos on the science and technology that are
shaping the future of humanity, including AI, robotics
and virtual reality.
Personally I’ve been subscribed to this blog for a while
now because of the information it provides. The subjects
they post about are very important because they keep
the reader updated on the technology and sciences that
are currently and will be in the future (far or near),
driving our civilization.
Techcrunch
TechCrunch.com is an online publisher of

Wired is a monthly American magazine, published
in print and online editions. It provides in-depth
coverage of current and future trends in
technology, and how they are shaping business,
entertainment, communications, science and
politics. It is headquartered in San Francisco,
California, and has been in publication since its first
issue in March/April 1993.
Harvard Business Review
The Harvard Business Review is a general management
magazine published by Harvard Business Publishing, a
wholly owned subsidiary of Harvard University. It’s
articles cover a wide range of topics that are relevant
to various industries, management functions, and
geographic locations. These focus on areas including

the world's best business and management experts.
Forbes
Forbes is generally an American business magazine,
published bi-weekly, featuring original articles
on finance, industry, investing, and marketing topics
but now has evolved into a global media company.
Forbes also reports on related subjects such
as technology, communications, science, politics,
and law. The magazine is well known for its lists and
rankings, including its lists of the richest Americans
(the Forbes 400) and rankings of world's top

this blog for a while now as well because they also
post a list about the top grossing DJs of the year.

Dancing Astronaut
Dancing Astronaut is an American media platform
for electronic dance music culture. Launched in
2009, the website covers concerts and festivals,
reports on entertainment news, reviews music, and
publishes original content syndicated across on-
demand audio platforms. It provides readers with
new music, music news and also photos and videos
of the latest EDM news. It has been hailed by
Billboard Magazine as "The voice of the EDM
generation."
Hype Machine
Hype Machine is a music blog aggregator. It aggregates the
most recently posted songs from a selection of music blogs
(about 800) and lists them on the website's main
page. Users have the ability to "love" songs, which saves the
song to their Loved List. The site has thirteen different
genres to select music from. Users can also select the
"Latest" tracks from categories including "Freshest",
"Remixes Only", "No Remixes", and blogs in the user's
country. Hype Machine also provides a full directory of the
blogs from which their database of music is derived.
Additionally, Hype Machine maintains a Popular List for the
last three days and the previous week, both of which are
determined by the number of "loves" given to each song by
users.
Metal Injection
Metal Injection is a heavy metal music-themed news
website. It was created in the summer of 2003 and
launched in January 2004 by co-owners Robert Pasbani
(known for hosting Sirius XM's Liquid Metal) and video
producer Frank Godla. Originally, the company was a
half hour public access show on Saturdays at 3 am,
which featured music videos and live footage before
transitioning to a news site format. The site's content
includes reviews, original video content (such as
interviews and music documentaries), and various
podcasts such as Metal Injection Livecast, Full Metal
Hipster, and Relapse Podcast.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia
The importance of collective intelligence is crucial for humanity. I mean our civilization has come
so far, especially in the last century but the last 3 decades have shown astonishing results in how
we go about our lives individually and in socially. I mean for us humans to advance we have had to
share the knowledge of the things we know so that we work better together and make sure others
understand the subjects they are pursuing and/or working in. Wikipedia is the largest source of
collective intelligence in the modern world. I have been a user for over ten years now and I have
used it many times and still do today for informational purposes. Before Wikipedia one would
have had to go to a library and read books on certain subjects of their interest or attend school to
learn the things they are trying to learn. With wikipedia the descriptions and definitions posted on
the site might not always be 100% accurate because they are posted and edited by it’s users but,
that is why the site has moderators that can review and edit anything that might not be true. For
the most part with all the contributors and users of the site, the information tends to be pretty
spot on and trustworthy but mainly for subjects that are already tried and tested to be true
because of their past existence and evolution.
Web-based
Collaboration
Tools
Dropbox
Google Docs
Splice
Dropbox
Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by American
company Dropbox, Inc., headquartered in San
Francisco, California, that offers cloud storage, file
synchronization, personal cloud, and client software.
This is a method for personal cloud storage. It is
commonly referred to as a method to backup one's
files online. In addition to storing the files, one can
also share them with colleagues and friends, all using
dropbox. You can store documents, pictures, videos
and presentations in dropbox. The best part about it
for me has been that I can access important files I’ve
uploaded to my dropbox account from any computer
or mobile device. I use it mainly to share files between
colleagues.
Google Docs
Google Docs allows the user to create and edit web-
based documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. It
allows for the storage of your documents online and
allows you to access them from any computer. Basic
Google Apps file types include: documents,
spreadsheets, presentations, drawings, web forms and
many more additional file types that are supported
through Google Drive add-on apps. Beyond storing
information online, the products are fully interactive &
collaborative by users. You are able to share your
individual data files and collections.
Splice
Splice is a cloud-based music creation and collaboration
platform, which integrates with key Digital Audio
Workstations (DAWs) to offer automated online backup
with version control, online and offline collaboration as well
as visualization of the creation process. Music projects
created on musician computers get automatically backed up
every time the producer makes a save. All audio file
dependencies are also being backed up. All saves are
privately available to the creator via a timeline representation
online. At any moment in time, producers can reload
previously saved versions which load automatically on their
computers.
Collaborators can be added to any private projects so they
can open previous versions and contribute new versions.
LinkedIn
LinkedIn
LinkedIn is crucially beneficial for networking in the business
world. Being a working musician and current student, the
tools that the service offers can help me to network and
communicate on a broader scale than before. With the
“recommendations” colleagues can commend my work and
that gives my work professional recognition that can aid in
acquiring a new job. “Following” is a great tool that helps me
to keep up to date with companies and people that I choose
to follow. I find ”Groups” to be a great part about LinkedIn
because I can communicate directly with others that I might
be involved in a project with, all at once. I think the most
important feature of LinkedIn is “Jobs”, because it allows me
to look for and find jobs in my field of expertise that are
currently hiring, it is way easier than searching in person
because I have access to job postings locally or nationally and
they are constantly being updated.
LinkedIn
The importance of using a service such as LinkedIn for my
professional career is that it will drastically change the way I do
all my career networking and the way other colleagues can see
me, find out information about me, and to what degree of
professionalism I am taken for depending on how my work is
commended and reviewed. It will literally help me backup up my
professional standing as being taken seriously for my work to
the people I am connected with. This will lead to other people
interested in networking with me to take me as a professional
and allow me to have future advantages for possible work and
collaborations with others boosting my career to new highs that
were not possible before without a service like LinkedIn.
What would be the importance of using a professional
network such as LinkedIn for my professional career
and how can it boost my professional networking?
