This document introduces quadrant analysis, a graphical tool that uses powermeter data to provide insight into the neuromuscular demands of training and racing. It defines average effective pedal force and circumferential pedal velocity, and shows how plotting these metrics against time, each other, and maximal values can help understand fiber type recruitment and the physiological impact of different intensities and cadences. Quadrant analysis is demonstrated on sample data from a training ride and time trials to illustrate its use in optimizing training.
