What does a Production
Company do ?
A production company essentially helps to
create the film- its assists in the
budgeting, scheduling, scripting, casting
and more. The company usually looks over
the film from when its just an idea to
completion.
They are responsible for finding a director
and the majority of acting talent required.
However they are also responsible if
anything were to go wrong on the film, for
example and actor being injured or
property being damaged.
Production Company Logo
The logo we chose for our production company was one
already in use. It is called Cinemanx and this below is their
logo. We chose to use this logo because Cinemanx are
the producers of low budget, but nonetheless successful
films. We felt it would fit our film perfectly.
We chose this production company because in the past
they have produced and distributed several low budget
films and they have a lot of experience in doing so.
What does a distributor do?
A distributor basically sends your film out into the world for
the waiting audiences to watch. They decide where and
when the film will show and they also promote the film.
There are a number of steps that are followed in the
process of distribution. Firstly they have to determine how
many copies of the film to make. The film is then
previewed to prospective buyers- e.g. cinema owners. The
film is then sent to the cinemas shortly before it opens. The
cinema then shows the movie and after people have seen
it, it will get sent back to the distributors and payment is
agreed. However in smaller budge films, more steps may
be necessary.
Why have you chosen the
distributor to release your film ?
We chose the distribution company we did
because we thought it would fit our film
requirements more than any other we saw.
It has handled a lot of low budget films and
knows the way in which it is best to
distribute them and the scale of the
distributing- how many cinemas it will show
at. We think that our chosen company will
help represent our film the best.
In the past, this company has produced
films such as ‘Chico and Rita’ which had a
budget of roughly $9 million but only made
around £81,000 in gross earnings. In the film
world this is quite a small budget, so looking
at this we thought it would be quite well
suited to our film.
