WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED
FROM AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

WORD CLOUDThe biggest word is
‘Good’, indicating that
feedback to my music
video was largely
positive, which means I
successfully appealed
to the teenage target
audience. ‘Liked’,
‘Loved’ and ‘Great’ also
appear as relatively
large words.
The words ‘Obvious’ and
‘Confused’ are the same size,
indicating that opinion was
split on the clarity of my story
and that the non-sequential
narrative was difficult to
understand for some members
of the audience. To improve
this, I would re-edit the
storyline and remove some of
the abstract cloud shots,
thereby allowing the story to
progress more readily.
‘Colour’ and ‘BW’ (black-and-
white) is also a word that
appears as large, indicating the
use of black-and-white attracted
the attention of the audience
and therefore was effective in
communicating the audience.
This shows that the delineation
between the character’s
‘depressed’ and ‘optimistic’ stage
was important to people’s
understanding of the video and
so made it clearer.
‘Tom’ features as a big
word, meaning that
audience focus was on
him, showing that his
performance was
something that they
gravitated towards. This
tells me that I need a
strong character for the
audience to relate to and
Tom’s everyman qualities
provided this.

This feedback from my target
audience shows that the video was
positively received by them with most
of them highlighting the editing and
use of the song. This tells me that the
visuals matched the song and that the
style appealed to my target
demographic. However, the feedback
negatively reflects on the pace and
the shakiness of the camera. This
shows that my target audience has a
shorter attention span and I would
consider using a radio edit for better
pacing. In addition, my location was
not varied and I did not feature a
wide range of characters, which may
have caused them to be less
interested in the video as its running
time was longer than the average
song (4:00).

 Really liked it! Maybe make the plot a bit more obvious as I got a bit confused

• I liked the pace of the song – it matched the action and the sense th
it was on-going – it kept to the rhythm.
• Great contrast to colour – increased the audience’s attention and
curiosity to the song.
Miguel
• Best bit is when Tom goes from B/W to colour – very
powerful, you can literally see the change on Tom
• Some good shots that move the narrative
• The B/W works really well, and the clouds look wicked
• Edits works with cuts to beat
• Like the way you have to make your own interpretation of
the story
• Some shots could have better framing – when tom walks
away at end he’s too low in frame
Aaron
• Good narrative, nice use of
black and white although
the switch between this and
the colour could be more
obvious why.
• Loved the time-lapse of the
clouds/weather and the
tracking shots were well
shot/framed.
This feedback also reflects my target
audience’s appreciation for the
editing and song but also highlights
their difficulties with the narrative.
Because of this, I would add
segments of dialogue interspersed
with the music to aid in the
understanding of the story. In
addition, I found that Miguel (42)
who is not in my target audience
was also appreciative of the editing
and song, but thought the camera
was too shaky. This proves that the
cinematography was a problem and
so I would improve this by using a
Steadicam to render the tracking
shots more stable.
