What is Digitalization?
16/04/2024 ToT on Instructional Design Page 8
Digitization Digitalization
Digital
Transformation
Conversion of
analog data to digital data
The process mainly deals with
recording data that can eventually be
used in digital technologies
Processing the digitized
data (information)
How can digitized data can be used
to improve workflows through
automating existing processes.
Creating a new system
Leveraging knowledge and
integrating it in all (business)
areas to enhance engagement
and create new value.
Transformation of the eco-
system.
What are the driving forces for TVET digitalization?
World of Work Goes Digital Advancement and Increased
Availability of Digital Learning
and Training Media
Increased Demand and Need
to Use Digital Learning and
Training Media Meaningfully
2nd Industrial
Revolution
Started with the advent of
steam and waterpower,
enabling the mechanization of
production processes
3rd
Industrial
Revolution
4th
Industrial
Revolution
Was driven by
electric power and
mass
manufacturing
techniques
Known as the Digital Revolution:
Brought by IT and automation,
electronics and advanced
globalization. The Third Industrial
Revolution has changed how
human interactions, commerce
and entire communities.

Industry 4.0…
• Emerges through a range of technologies that are blurring the lines between physical, digital and biological spaces.
• Transforms how products are designed, fabricated, used and operated, as well as how they are maintained and serviced.
• Is an overarching transformation that covers every aspect of industrial and economic activities and living
• Is characterized by the use of ‘disruptive technologies’, such as including nanotechnology, AI, robotics, bionics, genetics and 3D
printing.
• Leads to a blurred distinction between industry and services as digital technologies are connected with industrial products and
services and transformed into hybrid products that are neither exclusively goods nor services.
• Its main features are interoperability, virtualization, decentralization, real-time capability, service orientation, modularity.
16/04/2024 ToT on Instructional Design Page 12
The Assumption is that…
• the development of new digital technologies (digital innovation) creates new capabilities for education, the workplace and
societies in general.
• These capabilities lead to new skills that enable persons to adapt to and benefit from these transformations (digital
adaptation),
• as well as transformations in the nature of education, work and society (digital acceleration).
• Industry 4.0 is seen as one of the main drivers of innovation in TVET. Policies for digital TVET should therefore be seen through
a lens of adaptation to this new industrial paradigm.
Where TVET can catalyze Digitalization?
Nurturing digital skills
•Digital skills (Basic,
workplace/Intermediate &
Advanced)
•Matching job seeker’s
profile with labor market
needs and training
providers
Core areas
• Teachers
• Curriculum
• Flexible pathways
• Blended learning & e-
learning
• Assessment/RPL
• e-governance /
Capacity
Transforming delivery
mechanism
• Learning management
system
• Augmented, virtual,
mixed reality
• Real time labor market
intelligence system
• Digital Learning
framework/roadmap for
ecosystem approach
• AI/machine learning
Blockchain

What is a SWOT Analysis?
• SWOT = strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
• A framework used to evaluate an organization’s competitive position and to develop strategic planning
• Assesses internal and external factors, as well as current and future potential.
• Is designed to facilitate a realistic, fact-based, data-driven look at the strengths and weaknesses of an
organization, initiatives, or within its industry.
• Identifying core strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats leads to fact-based analysis, fresh
perspectives, and new ideas.
• Works best when diverse groups or voices within an organization are free to provide realistic data points
rather than prescribed messaging.

Editor's Notes

  • #7: Requires new/digital skills from employees Digital learning is Safest to learn, An be easly Adjusted, Less waste, Education can be cheaper & Improve productivity
  • #12: E-learning Trainer qualification framework Blended learning formats (lab rotation, flipped class room, individual rotation), For blended learning trainer Transversa competencies are needed-sector specific competency is not enough Digitalization must be reflected in curricula of TVET trainers training (instructional design, pedagogical aspects, digital content development) TVET Trainees training (integration of different digital skills) Capacity development for all TVET actors More attention to trainers Using late comers advantage/learn from others
  • #13: Skill gap
