ITU Approval of WiMAX Inclusion in IMT 2000
• In the recently concluded Radiocommunications Assembly in
Geneva, the ITU-R approved the seventh revision of
Recommendation ITU-R M.1457 adding OFDMA based technologies
to the IMT-2000 portfolio
• Interface Named as IP OFDMA TDD WMAN
• First time that a new air interface has been added to the IMT-2000
set of standards since the original technologies were selected nearly
a decade ago.
• Inclusion in IMT 2000 significantly escalates opportunities for global
deployment, especially within the 2.5-2.69 GHz band, to deliver
Mobile Internet to satisfy both rural and urban market demand.
• This places WiMAX technology on equal footing with the legacy
3G technologies ITU-R already endorses and will spur further
competition in the market to the benefit of customers worldwide
