Compare the Pictures….
Can you guess the idea behind the
picture comparison?
Do you think the life of men and women
are the same?
Can you point out some of the
differences in the life of men and
women?
Teacher recites the poem and asks the students to
listen carefully..
Now the teacher explains the newly introduced
words..
Provident
Meaning: Making or indicative of
timely preparation for the future
Wilderness
Meaning: uninhabited region
Benevolence
Meaning: Kindness
Culvert
Meaning: A tunnel carrying a stream
or open drain under a road or railway.
Whisper
Meaning: Speak very softly
Door-sill
Meaning: Dividing piece of
wood in the door way
Women have no wilderness in them…
They are provident instead….
Content in the tight hot cell of their hearts…
To eat dusty bread.
They do not see cattle cropping red winter grass..
They do not hear snow water going down under culvers
which is shallow and clear…
They wait, when they should turn to journeys..
They stiffen, when they should bend…
They use against themselves that benevolence,
To which no man is friend….
They hear in any whisper that speaks to them
A shout and a cry.
They cannot think of so many crops to a field..
Or of clean wood cleft by an axe…
Their love is an eager meaninglessness
Too tense or too lax…
As like as not, when they take life over their door-sill
They should let it go by…
