This research paper summarizes a survey on employee wellness programs. The survey received 239 responses from employers representing 1.8 million employees worldwide. The top challenges for wellness programs were engaging employees and getting ongoing participation. Most employers aimed to create a healthy work environment rather than just reduce healthcare costs. Common wellness offerings included flu shots and nutrition education, but few addressed obesity or tobacco, which are major health issues. Financial incentives like gift cards were seen as most effective for encouraging participation. However, the paper notes incentives should align with strategic goals and avoid creating unhealthy behaviors. Around half of employers had not discussed how healthcare reform may impact their business and wellness strategies.
