Nanotechnology(sometimes referred as ‘nanotech ’) is the
study of manipulating matters on an atomic and molecular
scale.
Generally nanotechnology deals with developing materials,
devices or structure whose at least one dimension is sized
from 1 to 100 nanometers.
3
Nano-robotics is the technology
of creating machines or robots at or
close to nano(10-9) dimension.
The names
nanobots, nanoids, nanites, nanom
achines and nanomites have also
been used to describe these devices
largely in research-and-
development phase.
4
 Research in Nano-robotics began in the late 1980’s.Around
this time, K. Eric Drexler published his research on
Nano systems.
 From there research developed along with two paths:-
1. Design and simulation of robot with nano scale
dimensions.
2. Manipulation or assembly of nano scale components with
microscopic instruments.
 Nano robot are nano machine embedded in our body
performing their duties as disciplined soldiers.
5
 According to current theories, nano-robots will possess at least
two-way communication.
A network of special stationary nano-robots might be
strategically positioned throughout the body, logging each
active nano-robot as it passes, then reporting those results,
allowing an interface to keep track of all of the devices in the
body.
Simulation is an essential tool for exploring alternatives in the
organization, configuration, motion planning, and control of
nano-devices exploring the human body.
 Basically, we may observe two distinct kind of nano-robot
utilization. One is nano-robots for the surgery intervention,
and the other is nano-robot to monitor patients’ body. 6
Nano-robots consists of :-
1. Molecular Sorting Rotor.
2. Propellers.
3. Fins.
4. Sensors.
Molecular Sorting Rotors:-
 Made up of Carbon nano-
tubes.
 SWNT’s can be used to
generate a mechanical
motion.
Nano-tubes with nano-gears are responsible for changing
direction of movement. It is used for molecular manipulation.
Structure of nano-robots
7
Propellers:-
 It is used to drive forward and backward. They are
bi-directional propellers.
Fins:-
 These are fitted along
with the propellers
used to propel the
device. The three fins
uses plane surface for
navigation.
Sensors:-
 These are the
navigational acoustic sensors.
8
WIFI-CMOS with wireless
communication is
feasible way to interface with
nano-robots i.e.
tracking, operation, diagnosis
.
CMOS:-
 It enable production of high
performance nano- devices.
Nano-robot IC Layout 9
This is caused by fatty deposits
on the walls of arteries. The device
should be able to remove these
deposits from the artery
walls.
ARTERIOSCLEROSIS:-
TUMORS TREATMENT:-
Drillers, Peppers and Stringers
engage in a delicate surgical operation
to remove a cancer tumor.
10
Nano-robots may carry small
ultra-sonic signal generator to
deliver frequencies directly to the
kidney stone which in-turn get
crushed and pass out through
urine.
KIDNEY STONE:-
Nano-robots can be used in the body to break up blood clots
into smaller pieces before they have a chance to break free and
move on their own.
Nano-robots are used in space-ships, space-suits and
equipments used to explore planets and moon 11
In nano-
computers using
nano-tubes and
nano-wires.
In the detection of blood sugar
level in human blood.
In the detection
and treatment of
cancer cells.
In Brain -
Augmentation-to
replace dead cells
with new cells 12
Speed up of Medical Treatment.
Faster and More Precise Diagnosis.
 Verification of Progress and Treatment.
 Nano-structuring is expected to bring about
lighter, stronger and programmable materials.
 Non-degradation of Treatment Agents.
13
Nano particles will penetrate living cells and accumulate in
animal organs and can perhaps enter the food chain.
There is no regulatory body dedicated to check this potent and
powerful invasion.
 Their impact on environment is unknown e.g. Nano-tubes of
carbon use gallium & arsenic and minute traces of gallium
arsenide which could prove toxic in the human body.
 Changes in the proteins due to the presence of nano- particles
in the blood stream could trigger dangerous effects like blood
clotting.
14
From these types of inventions, it will be useful for man to
cure many diseases and lead a fantastic life.
 The same technique is used in various treatments like
cancer, breaking kidney stones, brain surgery, heart surgery.
Nano-robots could improve the performance of spaceships,
spacesuits and equipment used to explore planets and
moons.
The major advantage of nano-robots is thought to be their
durability, in theory, they can remain operational for years, decades
or centuries.
Nano-robot might function at the atomic and molecular level to
build devices, machines known as molecular manufacturing. 15
