Ongoing Situations
UNHCR’s operations in Asia and the Pacific encompass two of the world’s largest forced displacement crises:

Afghanistan Situation
Some 3 million people are internally displaced due to conflict in Afghanistan, and over 24 million are in need of vital humanitarian relief.
UNHCR continues to deliver on its scaled-up response, focusing on the provision of cash assistance, core relief items and shelter. UNHCR also supports host governments and communities in their efforts to include Afghans in national services such as health and education.

“Like many others, we took refuge at the high school located few miles away from the village to protect us from the cyclone”, she says.
After spending two nights in one of the classrooms of the high school, she went back to see the damages of the cyclone. The area where she used to live was completely flooded.
“I was in shock. I could not even find my house. Everything has been destroyed. All my belongings were lost. This situation has made me anxious, and I could not eat properly in the first few days” [following Cyclone Mocha], she says.
Like many others, Abia Khartu was already struggling to make ends meet. Life is harder for her and her seven family members as they have all lost their livelihoods.
Over the past days, UNHCR and partners distributed relief items, including plastic tarpaulins, blankets, mats, kitchen sets, mosquito nets to families in need.

Myanmar Situation
Violence against civilians and the intensified armed conflict following the events of February 2021 caused tens of thousands of refugees to flee to neighbouring countries and have displaced 3.1 million people within Myanmar.
UNHCR has called for comprehensive and regional approaches to durable solutions for some to 1.3 million refugees from Myanmar, such as voluntary repatriation and resettlement. We focus on the responsive and timely delivery of humanitarian assistance, strengthening community-based protection and resilience
Global Refugee Forum 2023
The Global Refugee Forum 2023 will take place from 13 to 15 December at the Palexpo in Geneva, Switzerland, with linked events from 12 December onwards. Held every four years, the Forum is an opportunity for the international community to come together to find solutions, amplify impact and commit to sustained actions and support for refugees and their host countries.

UNHCR helps to save lives and build better futures for the millions of people forced to flee their homes.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency works to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution, war or disaster at home.
Since 1950, we have faced multiple crises on multiple continents, and provided vital assistance to refugees, asylum-seekers, internally displaced and stateless people, many of whom have nobody left to turn to.
We help to save lives and build better futures for millions forced from home.
Urgent: Help us continue life-saving aid amid financial uncertainty
With critical funding now uncertain, refugee families face the risk of losing life-saving aid when they need it most. Your help is crucial to ensure that we can continue providing emergency shelter, food, and protection to those who need it most.
Over 122 million people are displaced worldwide, and your support directly impacts their ability to survive and rebuild. Without adequate funding, we face the real risk of cutting vital services.
In these uncertain times, UNHCR teams are working around the clock to ensure displaced families continue to receive the support they need.
Your donation today can make a life-saving difference.

can provide a bukhary heating device for a displaced family to keep them warm during the harsh winter season in Afghanistan.
