![Ukraine. UNHCR provides prefabricated houses to war-affected families with destroyed homes.](/ua/sites/ua/files/RF1418532.jpg "When the full-scale war began in February 2022, Kateryna, 73, and her daughter Olena were living in their family home. After days of heavy shelling, they were forced to leave and take shelter at a local energy plant, where they stayed for over a month with hundreds of other residents. While they were away, their house was completely destroyed by a missile strike on March 17, 2022. After the Russian forces withdrew from Chernihiv region, Kateryna and Olena moved into an abandoned house in their old neighborhood. However, the house was in poor condition, making it difficult to live there. In 2024, they reached out to UNHCR’s partner, Rokada, for help. By December 2024, they received a prefabricated house from UNHCR, installed on their own land. Now, Kateryna and Olena have a safe and dignified place to call home once again. "We received the keys on December 14th. We celebrated the New Year in our own home. We are very grateful to be able to live here—on our own land. We will never forget this support,"")
