Agroecological entrepreneurship is driving the transformation of food systems across Africa, creating fair opportunities for farmers and strengthening the need for vibrant territorial markets that connect producers, consumers, and communities. This November, the Zambian Governance Foundation (ZGF), with support from Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) will host the National Convening on Advancing Agroecological Entrepreneurship and Territorial Markets under the theme “Advancing Agroecological Entrepreneurship and Territorial Markets, Building a Movement for Knowledge Sharing, Policy and Advocacy.” The gathering will bring together agroecological entrepreneurs, territorial market actors, and policy advocates to strengthen collaboration, promote knowledge exchange and inspire collective action. 6–7 November 2025 | Lusaka Agriculture Showgrounds This event is strictly by invitation. Let’s grow the movement together!

Happy World Food Day As we commemorate World Food Day, let us take time to celebrate our African food systems — systems that define our identity, nourish our people, and connect us to our land and heritage. True food sovereignty begins when we reclaim the power to decide what we grow, how we grow it, and what we eat. For too long, colonial legacies have shaped our agriculture, dictating production patterns and values that often undermine our local knowledge and biodiversity. It is time to pursue the true decolonization of our food systems — to shift away from practices that destroy our soils, our health, our environment, and our very sense of being African. We must honour and preserve the wisdom of our forefathers, whose traditional farming and seed systems sustained communities long before industrial models took root. As Zambia engages with global agricultural agendas, let this World Food Day remind policymakers of the urgent need to integrate traditional knowledge and farmer-managed seed systems into national strategies. Our future depends on food systems that are not only productive, but proudly African, resilient, and rooted in our own identity. #WorldFoodDay #FoodSovereignty #Agroecology #TraditionalKnowledge #ZambiaGovernanceFoundation #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateResilience

It is Global Fertilizer Day 🌍 ☘️ Today offers a moment to pause and reflect on how our agricultural choices shape both the environment and the communities that depend on it. For decades, chemical fertilizers have been central to food production. Yet their impact on soil health, water quality, and human wellbeing continues to raise difficult but necessary questions. When the soil weakens, so does our ability to sustain life. As ZGF and member of Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB), we believe that sustainable agriculture is not only about improving yields it is about ensuring justice, equity, and resilience in our food systems. Real progress lies in supporting farmers and communities to adopt practices that restore the land, protect health and secure the future of food for generations to come. It is time to invest in solutions that heal rather than harm and to stand with the farmers and communities leading the way toward truly sustainable agriculture. #GlobalFertilizerDay #Agroecology #SoilHealth #RegenerativeAgriculture #FoodSovereignty #ClimateAct #ZambiaAllianceforAgroecologyandBiodiversity(ZAAB) #ZGF

The Catalyst Fund was the first phase of the Shifting the Power programme, which saw 25 CSOs in the Southern, Eastern, and Central Provinces receive funding to 'catalyse' their activities. It's been some time since the Catalyst Fund concluded, and we caught up with some of our CSO partners to learn about their experiences since then. This week's Newsflash explores life after the Catalyst Fund for our Eastern Province partners. Why shift power? True development is not something done for communities, but with — and most critically, by them. In this week’s Newsflash, we explore what “shifting the power” means in practice: from trusting grassroots groups first, to letting communities define their own priorities. The question now is not just whether communities are ready to take power — but whether we are ready to let them. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eFebbexN

A week of learning and reflection in Petauke! 🌍✨ Since Monday, we’ve been conducting monitoring and aftercare visits with our partners in Petauke District. We began with a Civil Society Strengthening Fund (CSSF) monitoring visit to God’s Blessings Children Blessing Foundation, where together we reflected on progress and shared lessons for the future. We also carried out aftercare visits with our Catalyst Fund partners Petauke Youth Bakers, Ongonlwe Women’s Association, Minga Home Craft, Kapona Community Development Resource Center, and Kangwa Women’s Development Club and had the chance to hear about the strides they’ve been making since the Catalyst Fund closed out. These visits were a reminder of the power of grassroots leadership and how communities continue to push forward real change. 💪🏾 #STPZambia #CSSF #CatalystFund #LocallyLed #CommunityPower #GrassrootsLeadership #ZambiaForward
