  • 🌈 EIGE is proud to be part of Lithuanian Pride 2026!    Equality, inclusion and respect for diversity are at the heart of our work. We are delighted to join this celebration of solidarity, standing alongside communities, partners and advocates working towards a more equal Europe for everyone.    This year's theme, "Už šeimų lygybę!" ("For family equality!"), highlights the importance of ensuring that all families are recognised, respected and treated equally.    As Pride Month begins, we wish everyone a joyful, safe and inspiring celebration. Together, we continue working towards a Europe where everyone can live free from discrimination and be themselves. 🏳️🌈 Happy Pride Month!

  • This World Environment Day, one message is clear: a greener Europe must also be a more equal one.    In Spain this means: supporting women to enter into green jobs, building gender equality into climate policies, and making local communities part of decision-making.    From Austria’s railway industry to Belgium’s climate education and initiatives for women in renewable energy and green entrepreneurship, there are inspiring examples all across Europe that show what a just green transition can look like.    Read more from EIGE’s collection of good practices  https://lnkd.in/dNRPBMcx

  • Intimate partner violence is not an isolated incident. In 2022, eight EU Member States recorded over 212,000 offences of intimate partner violence against women, involving more than 146,000 victims. That’s an average of 1.5 offences per victim — violence is often repeated, not “one‑off”. Yet even these figures likely underestimate reality. In several countries, only the most serious offence is recorded, leaving other violent acts invisible. Avoiding the “single‑offence” approach matters — because it creates a dark figure in what gets counted, and what gets acted on. Better data helps reveal reality. And reality must guide policy Behind the Numbers Report: https://lnkd.in/dU8jSqKK

  • Good news from corporate boardrooms in the EU! They're moving towards greater gender balance. But progress remains uneven, with several Member States still lagging behind on implementing the Gender Balance on Corporate Boards Directive. A quarter of EU countries have yet to fully transpose the Directive into national law, despite the original deadline passing in December 2024. By December 2025:    • 14 Member States had adopted specific legal measures  • 6 relied on existing legislation meeting certain criteria  • 5 were still in the process of transposition  • 2 had reported no relevant measures at all   Find out more in our new policy report:    https://lnkd.in/dbhwXr3A #GenderEquality

  • “Every case should be reported. Every case should be the headlines. It should be zero.” In a powerful testimony, Euronews Chief Anchor Méabh Mc Mahon reflects on witnessing gender-based violence in broad daylight in Brussels, and on the urgent need for reliable data, public awareness, and political action to end violence against women. The video highlights why EIGE’s data and research matter: making the scale of gender-based violence visible, informing policy, and ensuring that women’s experiences are no longer ignored or hidden behind closed doors. Three in ten women in Europe experience gender-based violence. That must change. https://lnkd.in/ddriTEeN #Itshouldbezero

Violence is not a part of the job! Yet the latest EU survey by European Institute for Gender Equality, Eurostat and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights shows that up to 31% of women workers have experienced sexual harassment at work. For younger women, the figure rises to 42%. Behind these numbers is another crisis: understaffing. Across public services, workers are expected to do more with less. Hospitals, care services, public administrations and other essential services face chronic staff shortages. They are key to understand and prevent violence and harassment at work. This is a #PublicServicesEmergency - to tackle it, we need investment, not austerity. More staff means safer workplaces, better services and stronger protection against violence and harassment. Violence should never be normalised. #ItShouldBeZero

  • ⚖️ Now more than ever, the rule of law matters. Knowing that the rules apply equally to everyone, regardless of gender, origin, status, race, age, religion or anything else, lets people live with confidence – from signing a job contract to renting a home or speaking freely in public. When the rule of law is strong, rights are respected. People are protected from abuse of power, treated fairly and given equal access to justice and public services. This is why, as the rule of law comes under increasing pressure, it’s so important to protect it. Doing so means protecting people’s ability to live their lives, defend their rights, and be part of a system that works for everyone. That is what the rule of law really is – the infrastructure that allows society to move forward. Together. For more on what the rule of law stands for and why it matters, dive into a new explainer created jointly by EIGE and partner organisations. • Today, we welcomed officials and experts from Ukraine and the Netherlands for an exchange on advancing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.    Representatives from Ukrainian ministries, public institutions, civil society and academia came together to share practical experiences on gender equality and security policies in Lithuania and across the EU, supporting the implementation of Ukraine’s III National Action Plan.    Ukraine is working towards a more equal and just future, and we are proud to support this journey alongside our partners every step of the way.    At the same time, EIGE Director Carlien Scheele met with Olesia Bondar from the Ukrainian Women’s Fund to discuss the development of a Gender Equality Index for Ukraine based on EIGE’s methodology.    Our work continues. Together.    #GenderEquality #Ukraine

  • On Global Day of Parents, we celebrate and thank parents everywhere for all they do – the seen and the unseen – despite how challenging it can be. Yet the impact of care responsibilities is still not shared equally. In 2023, employment rates for women with young children were 10.5 percentage points lower than for women without children. In contrast, employment rates for men with young children were 8.2 percentage points higher than for men without children.    Parenthood should never come at the expense of equality. https://lnkd.in/eV3KbpAk     #GenderEquality

  • We always say gender equality does not move forward in silos. This week’s country visit to Greece couldn't have fine-tuned that fact more.      With a delegation led by EIGE's Director Carlien Scheele members from Greek government, parliament, equality bodies, human rights institutions, civil society, researchers and the media focused on what it takes to move the needle on gender equality in a profound and lasting way.     We come away with a granular understanding of the realities, challenges and opportunities Greece has at its disposal for advancing gender equality.    And from there, strategic ways to strengthen our cooperation with government entities, civil society, independent bodies and the media ahead of Greece’s upcoming EU Presidency and beyond.     Thank you to everyone who brought their expertise, openness and momentum to the discussions.     You have given us a boost in the right direction to strengthen our support and cooperation with Greece.      Together, we turn evidence and experience into change.
