The third edition of the Youth Policy Dialogue (YPD) will once again bring together young people and Commissioner Christophe Hansen to exchange views on the future of agriculture, food systems and rural areas.
This year's edition will take place on 17 September 2026 in Dublin and will gather young participants to contribute to the implementation of the EU Livestock Strategy, while reflecting on the diversity of perspectives across EU countries, with a particular focus on Ireland.
The dialogue will explore:
- the key challenges and opportunities for young livestock farmers and generational renewal across the different livestock sectors;
- the role of innovation, digitalisation and sustainability in shaping the future of livestock farming;
- practical solutions and policy measures, at both EU and national levels, that can effectively support the sector and encourage the next generation of farmers.

Description
The main objectives of Youth Policy Dialogues are to encourage young people to express their views on EU policy initiatives by interacting with Commissioners and to integrate youth views in the EU’s political agenda.
The dialogues foster open discussions, share insights, and build connections with young people on pressing issues and empower young people by fostering their active engagement in democratic life. Youth Policy Dialogues enable young people to better understand the choices behind policy decisions and their impact.
Youth policy dialogues will be organised annually:
- 11 December 2024 on Building together the future of farming, food and rural areas
- 7 May 2025 on Towards a strategy on generational renewal
