    Underemployment is almost as costly as unemployment. I walked into Staples today for a quick transaction. I left thinking about under utilized potential. A young man served me Arsal Khan. Exceptional customer service. Detail-oriented. Present. Intentional. The kind of professionalism most organizations say they want but rarely find. Then I asked: “What do you actually do?” He said: “I’m a software engineer. I work with Python and am good at programming and studied at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). As an instructor there myself, I paused. Because I have seen this pattern too many times. A capable, trained, technically skilled professional… Working retail. And let me be clear, there is nothing wrong with honest work. I have been there. I understand it. Underemployment is one of the most silent value leaks in our 🇨🇦Canadian economy. Not because people lack skills. But because: • Their value is not visible • Their positioning is not strategic • Their networks are not activated • Their capabilities are not translated into business impact We have talent. What we lack is a system that connects talent to opportunity at the right level. The real question is: How many high-value professionals are hidden in plain sight right now? If we are serious about economic growth, innovation, and productivity, then we need to act differently. Through No Gap Foundation, this is exactly one key gap we are working to close. Strategic Project Leader supports the work. We need leaders, organizations, and partners to step in and help: 1. Teach professionals how to articulate value in business terms 2. Build systems that surface hidden talent faster 3. Create pathways for real experience, not just credentials 4.
