Come join us at DW 👋 Every role at DW has a story behind it—and often that story begins long before anyone sets foot in the newsroom. At DW headquarters in Berlin, we spoke with some of our colleagues about their career paths: what they studied, how they got started, and where that journey has taken them today. Some studied media-related subjects; others have gained practical experience through apprenticeships – but each brings a unique perspective and experience to the table. This is a glimpse into the people behind the work and how different paths come together at DW 🌍

Bigger, bolder and more urgent: JaafarTalk is back for Season Two! ✨ One year after DW's Arabic-language multimedia show JaafarTalk with host Jaafar Abdul Karim introduced its three sub-formats "Step by Step", "Open Up" and "It's My Secret", the show continues to actively drive innovation and spark dialogue with its growing community. The first season clearly struck a chord: With a global following of more than nine million followers across social media platforms, JaafarTalk engages Arabic-speaking audiences in interactive conversations, even in times where polarization and division continue to rise globally and in the target region. ➡️ Following a successful first run and award-winning recognition at the 2025 AIB Awards in London, the three flagship formats are now returning for a new season — sharper in focus and more relevant than ever. ℹ️ Find out more about the show and where to watch it in our press release: https://lnkd.in/dE4dJavA

DW awards the Freedom of Speech Award 2026 to Jimmy Lai. For decades, the Hong Kong media entrepreneur has stood up for press freedom and democracy, even as space for independent journalism became increasingly limited. As the founder of Apple Daily, Jimmy Lai gave journalists a platform for free reporting and a voice to Hong Kong's democracy movement. Since 2020, Jimmy Lai has been detained, much of the time in solitary confinement. In early 2026, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison under Hong Kong's national security law. His case has come to symbolize a broader crackdown on media freedom and dissent. "Jimmy Lai has stood unwaveringly for press freedom in Hong Kong at great personal risk. His commitment reminds us that press freedom is never a given – it must be constantly defended," says DW Director General Barbara Massing. The DW Freedom of Speech Award will be presented on June 23, 2026, at the DW Global Media Forum in Bonn. "People who fight for freedom are never alone," says Jimmy Lai's son Sebastien, a message this award seeks to underline. ℹ️ Our press release: https://lnkd.in/dBm4KNjc #FreedomOfSpeechAward #JimmyLai #GMF26 #JournalismOutLoud

DW was misused in a disinformation campaign targeting the German federal government through manipulated video content. Online posts falsely claimed that men in Germany had received SMS messages from the Bundeswehr and that tens of thousands were prevented from leaving the country in April. 🔎 #DWAmbassador and DW Coordinator Digital Talents & Content Creators Johanna Rüdiger took a closer look at the claims, featuring an assessment by Rayna Breuer from DW's fact check team. More background on the disinformation campaign can be found in our press release (in German) linked in the comments. ⤵️

Hungary voted — and DW was there to cover it Record turnout, a closely watched election, and a result that many observers are calling a significant moment in Hungary's political landscape. On Sunday, April 12, voters went to the polls, with Péter Magyar finishing ahead of long‑serving Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. ➡️ For DW, this meant being present wherever the story unfolded. Our reporters in Hungary and our teams in the broadcasting centers worked tirelessly, both in the lead‑up to the vote and on election day, to provide thorough coverage and clear analysis as the results came in. 🎥 Here's a short behind‑the‑scenes look at some of the people who made this reporting possible. Dóra Diseri, Fanny Facsar (#DWAmbassador), Ferenc Gaál, Laura Szaplonczai, Kuczogi Jakab, Agnes Szabo
