Seven Things (you aren’t interested in knowing) about Me(me)

I’ve been tagged (by Michael at Books on the Nightstand) with this meme and you are the unfortunate recipient of Seven Random Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me:

1. I believe drinking coffee stunted my growth, because I started drinking coffee and quit growing when I was 15 years old (my stunted height is 6’7″ – imagine how tall I could have been).  Yes, you read that right – I’ve been 6’7″ tall since I was 15, which is great if I’m at a parade, but stinks if I’m buying clothes.

2. I moved out when I was 18 and have lived in 17 different apartments or houses since then (over the last 30 years).

3. During our first date, I knew my date and I would get married – we did, and are still married (going on 27 years).

4. I’m on my fourth career and in my 12th organization, but haven’t applied for a job in over 25 years (I obviously embrace change).

5. Although several of my relatives hold Master’s degrees, I’m the first person in my family’s history to earn a doctorate.

6. We moved to the last four cities we’ve lived in within 6 months of me stating, “I would never live in __________” (fill in blank with the name of the city we almost immediately moved to).

7. We’ve been in our current city for almost 15 years and I’ve been saying “I’ll never live in Hawaii or San Diego” the entire time – WHAT’S UP WITH THAT?

Now you know…

I’d like to hear from all of you, so you are all tagged!

The Rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules.
3. Write 7 random things about yourself.
4. Tag 7 people and link to their blogs.
5. Let each person know they were tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry has been published.

Enjoy!

A-Z Artists/Bands – Join in the Fun with Meme!

I happened across a version of this meme and decided to list a few of my favorite Artists/Bands from A-Z.

These aren’t necessarily my favorite songs by each of these artists, but I tried to find songs that were either well performed, unusual, or a version different from the one heard on the radio (yet, some are my favorite songs by that artist/band).  I’ve linked each artist/band to a YouTube video for your listening/viewing pleasure.

I would like to see your list, so be sure to link back if you decide to join in on the fun by creating your own list (no need to link to videos – that was just my way to kill some time on a day off).  Since the list is alphabetical, it seems that librarians and booksellers might find this enjoyable (no pressure Chartroose, Rebecca, Michael and Ann, and Stacy).  Of course, it is always good to hear from other friends as well.

Click on the artist or band to see and hear a song (be sure to check out Heart – it’s a great version of their song).  You might not recognize the names of all these artists, so click on their name to discover who they are:

Enjoy!

Quirks and Addictions – I’m Tagged to Confess my Obsessions.

I’ve been tagged about my quirks and addictions (Thanks Chirax).  This is supposed to be an opportunity for you to get to know your blogging friend better, so I’ll try to confess to obsessions I haven’t previously mentioned.  I’ll try to be as honest as anyone running for an elected office, so (sounding like Bullwinkle) “away we go!”

  • Fantasy Baseball – I generally have three or four teams going.  One of the first things I do each morning is check my stats and standings from the previous day.  Rarely a week goes by that I haven’t dropped someone and picked up someone else from the waiver wire.  This season I won first place in two leagues and had to settle for third in another.  I will now have to settle for fantasy football (my team is down near the bottom of the standings) until baseball season begins again.

  • email – I check my work email (seemingly) every two minutes.

  • Coffee – My beverage of choice in the mornings and after a meal (keep the decaf away from me).  I like my coffee black.

  • Your Comments – When I log onto WordPress, the first place I go is to the comments page.  I like to know what you are thinking and saying.  You are all kind to me – thanks!

  • Your Blogs – I read through my blogroll each day.  So… even if I don’t comment, I have read what you have written.  I’ll work on commenting more often (and try to sound more interesting).

I’ll tag Leaving Evangeline, Literate Housewife, Mssc54, Amber, Jeff, Sanity Found, Unfinished Person, and Stacy Buckeye.

Thanks for reading!

Have You Ever… A Meme for Lazy Bloggers (from Chartroose… or someone)

This meme for lazy bloggers is brought to you by Chartroose , who was too lazy to actually name names by tagging anyone.  Yet, I decided to lazily answer these “Have You Ever…” questions:
Have You Ever…

1. gone on a blind date? No.  Although I did go out with a girl who wore thick glasses once.

2. skipped school? Not really skipped, but I had several classes during high school that I only attended until the teacher took roll (and they never seemed to notice – or care – that I had gone missing).

3. been on the opposite side of your country? I live on the opposite side of my country from those who live opposite from me.  I have been to their side of the country as a visitor several times, but I’ve never lived outside of the southwest USA.  I’ve also been on the opposite side of other people’s countries.

4. swam in the ocean? Yes, as recently as last month… well, it was more like floating… actually, maybe more like bobbing… OK, I stood ankle deep and the waves almost got my shorts wet.

5. had your booze taken away by the cops? Yes, several times in high school.  No arrests, however.  I think they just wanted some free stuff for the weekend because they didn’t pour it out or give me a ticket, they just loaded it into their car and drove away.

6. lettered in a high school sport? Yes – basketball, cross-country, and track.

7. cried yourself to sleep? Nope.  Laughed myself to sleep several times, though.

8. played a musical instrument? Drums, if that counts as musical.

9. sung karaoke? Aye, captain.  I’m a glory hog.

10. cheated on an exam? Sure… once… at a time…

11. played spin-the-bottle? No.  I have used a bottle for other things, but not spinning.

12. laughed until some sort of beverage came out of your nose? It seems like it is likely, but I can’t think of a specific instance.  I did laugh until spaghetti almost came out of my nose one time, but that’s probably not something I would mention in a public forum like a blog… or whatever…

13. watched the sun rise with someone you care about? Yes, and married her.

14. ever been arrested? No, but like Chartroose, I was pulled over for doing about triple the speed limit.  The policeman received an urgent call as I handed him my license, then threw it back at me, said something like “you got lucky,” and sped away.

15. gone ice skating? Yes it was my PE class in junior high school – how weird is that?

16. been skinny dipping? Yep – but I’m not that skinny anymore, so that halted that.

17. been on television? Yes, several times for various things – but never the feature, just one of the bit players.

18. thrown up in front of a date? No.  Although I have had someone throw up in front of me – I didn’t marry her.

That’s it! Go check out Chartroose’s answers (if you have the courage).

  3. A Great Meal

  3. Get the yard cleaned up

3 Current Obsessions

  1. Books on CD

  2. We thought I’d be more mature by then.
  3. We were wrong.

From Meme to You

I am a curious sort of person.  I was tagged with a meme, but didn’t know what a meme was.  Here is the Wikipedia definition of meme:

A meme (pronounced /miːm/)[1] is any thought or behavior that can be passed from one person to another by means of imitation. Examples include thoughts, ideas, theories, gestures, practices, fashions, habits, songs and dances. Memes propagate themselves and can move through the cultural sociosphere in a manner similar to the contagious behavior of a virus.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme

So… there you go.

I’ve Been Tagged (The Horror… The Horror…)

Trish over at Hey Lady!  Watcha Readin’? tagged me with this.  I’m so new at this that I don’t even know what meme means.  I mean, I have an idea, but not really…

Here’s how it goes (by Trish):

My Friend Amy (edited by Don: actually Trish’s friend Amy, but you know how blog names go) started the whole thing and said: I am going to list three categories of books. 3 MUST Read Books, 3 Keep Your Eyes on These, and 3 Look For These Soon. Keeping with the theme, I am going to tag at least 3 bloggers. They should put these same lists on their blog but SUBTRACT one book from each list and ADD one of their own. Then they should tag at least 3 more bloggers. It will be fun to see how the lists change as it goes around the blogosphere. Please come back to this post and leave a comment so someone can see how the lists are changing as they go around the blogosphere. Since this is Book Buzz…please keep your lists to titles released in 2007-2009.

Here’s Heather’s list (the asterisks are Trish’s additions – The Bold Red belong to donstuff):
