Railway repairs and timetable changes in 2026
In 2026, reconstruction and electrification of the railway between Tapa–Tartu and Tapa–Narva will continue. Large-scale works will also take place on the Tartu–Valga, Tartu–Koidula and Kohila–Rapla railway sections.
The most extensive construction works will be carried out on the Tapa–Narva section. The infrastructure manager, AS Eesti Raudtee, is reconstructing and electrifying the line to enable the introduction of new Škoda electric trains on the Tallinn–Narva route in the future.
In the southwestern direction (Tallinn–Rapla/Türi/Viljandi), the infrastructure manager AS Edelaraudtee will carry out major reconstruction works between Rapla and Kohila stations.
Elron will provide timely information about partial or full bus replacement services on its website and via the media. Temporary traffic arrangements will affect train departure and arrival times, so passengers are advised to check schedules before travelling.

Night-time railway infrastructure works between Elva and Valga
From 6 April to 6 December, passengers on two services on the Elva–Valga line will be transported by bus. Night-time infrastructure works will be carried out on the Palupera–Puka section, and therefore the last train of the day will not run in either direction on the Elva–Valga section. The cancelled trains will be replaced by buses.

On 31 August, Siemens will begin activation works for the new railway signalling system on the Tapa–Tartu section.
This will result in slower journeys on the Tallinn–Tartu line and, consequently, a new timetable. From 31 August, traffic will be under manual control at up to four stations simultaneously between Tapa and Tartu, with the works advancing towards Tartu every three weeks. This means a timetable change every three weeks, at least four times in total.
