A small attempt to hold back the dark and summon the dawn.
This site is an attempt to work through social, political and economic issues from the most basic principles, following on from the assertion that, as morality is meant to underpin all of our actions, then political and economic philosophy should obviously be applications of moral philosophy.
Now, if we require any morality to potentially be universal, meaning that, at least in principle, it could be adopted by any being capable of grasping that morality, without compulsion, including deception, then only moralities that are variations of the “Golden Rule” of Christianity, other mainstream religions and much of humanism seem to be viable. Otherwise we have to posit entities that would knowingly and freely submit to a system of morality that would not accord their deepest wishes and needs, whatever it is they hold most dear, the same respect as those of other adherents of that system of morality, which involves those beings having to act “freely” but also in a way that does not follow from their own motivations, which seems internally contradictory.
