So, I guess you can tell, I went to the beach last week. We had a great time. Well, except for the first day. We arrived a little before Tropical Storm Barry did. As you can see above, the water was pretty rough and the sky dark. And, lucky us, we camped! That camper rocked all night long in the wind, and not in a good way either 😉
After that first day though, it was wonderful. We got lots of sun, lots of sand in places you don’t really want it, and I got lots of reading done. I completed 3 books and read more than half of another one, which I finished once I got home. It was SO great!

I read:
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordian which was fantastic.
The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason which was an awesome beach read! Can’t wait to read the next one!
Iris, Messenger by Sarah Deming for Estella
And started Julie & Julie: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell, which I finished after I got home. I seriously like butt-crazy loved this!

And, as you can tell, Ellie had a ball. As soon as she hit the beach she was running. She wore herself out everyday. It was wonderful for her.
We ate a lot of great food. Brunch at The House of Blues (where the kiddo ate 2 heaping plates of fruit. Child loves watermelon!). Seafood at Joe’s Crab Shack. Pizza at Ultimate California Pizza where we got some really…different…pizzas. Yummy yummy!
And I got a ton of great pictures 🙂 Here’s another!

Sounds like a wonderful time! Love the pics and the new banner 🙂
Love the beach! Glad you had fun, but what I don’t get is…how in the world do you manage finishing three books on vacation with a three-year-old? I’m so impressed and if you have any tips, I’d love to hear them. 🙂
Fun, fun, fun! Well, except the whole tropical storm thing. Eeek! Me + camper + tropical storm = freakout.
You lucky duck, you! How fun to spend your vacation at the BEACH!!
Glad to hear you enjoyed Julie & Julia!
Great pix, by the way.
Les, counting the days ’til her vacation!!
I love that last picture, it’s gorgeous. I could never figure out how to do the reading-at-the-beach thing for any significant length of time. Maybe it’s because I don’t typically count books that considered “beachy”…
Hey, we went to the beach the weekend before! We went to Myrtle Beach, how about you? We also felt the effects of TS Barry our last day there and had to forgo my planned parasailing adventure. 🙂 It was kind of cool to be out there in the elements, though. I love storms. 🙂
Your trip sounds like so much fun. Great reading and great pictures. What more can you ask for?
Dang Iliana, you already made it here. I wish you could go on vacation too!
Camille, the grandma went with us. It was 7 adults to 4 children, one of whom was a baby. Made it a little easier. Plus, the ole hip (damn pregnancy symptom) woke me up a lot at night and I would read then with my booklight. And I read on the drive down and back. It was much easier to read on vacay that at home!
Andi, you don’t even know! Total freak out! Especially when TWO campers around us lost their awnings! Ripped right off! At 3 AM!
Yay for Les’s vacation! Going kayaking?
Imani, since I couldn’t really swim well (my belly is much to big now!) I kept one eye on the kid and one on my book. I have a hard time with beachy books too, usually, but I did read one that I consider beachy and enjoyed it. The 2 YA books were pretty easy as well. And the foodie book was really easy to read. I didn’t dare take Don Quixote, even though I probably should have!
Lesley, we did go to Myrtle Beach! I just missed you! I think we would have enjoyed the storm more if we had already been there.
Nancy, it was SO much fun! I wish I was still there!
Sounds like you had a good time, well except for the storm! The storm pic is very cool though. And I love that last pic of Ellie!
I’m not a beach person, but this looks like so much fun. Maybe it’s the overcast sky that did it. Except, yeah, not so great in a camper. 🙂 Love the Ellie photos, as always!! And, hey, another new banner! I like!
