RIP IV

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s that time.  The time for curling up with spooky, creepy, spine-tingling stories.  The time to read the macabre, the blood-thirsty, the spell-binding.  The time for pumpkins on the front porch, for trees to be riots of color, for soups and stews, for my most favorite reading challenge of all challenges!!! It’s time for RIP IV!!!

Of course, I’m joining this challenge.  I’ve done it since the first year.  I haven’t always completed it, but I’ve always had a great time.  Go to Carl’s blog to find out more.

As usual, I have a ton of books to read that fit this category. I’ve decided to do Peril the First and the Short Story challenges.  I have lots more books I could read that fit this category, but I’ve narrowed it down to these twelve. With a whole lot of luck and help from the hubby, I hope I can finish four of them!

1. Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (Have a gorgeous new edition I’ve been dying to read)

4. Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (I’ve been wanting to reread this one)

5. The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins

6. Ghostwalk by Rebecca Stott

7. The Ghost Writer by John Harwood

8. The Seance by John Harwood

  1. Good list; I read both Frankenstein and Dracula last year for the RIP (loved Dracula, but it may just be me!)… and I should stick Moonstone on my list since we’re reading it for my October F2F bookgroup. Didn’t think of that before… thanks!

  2. I just want to start squealing as I read everybody’s lists! You’ve got some wonderful classics there. I just started The Ghost Writer this morning before work and can’t wait to get back to it later this evening. You’ve also got me thinking about adding in some short stories too :o)

  3. I’m just catching up on my blog reading so I’m seeing your new blog look – very pretty 🙂

I’m joining the RIP challenge too and was thinking of also putting Dracula on my list. Can’t believe I’ve never read that! ha.

    Anyway, have fun!

  4. I love, love, love Frankenstein.

And I do hope you make it through Dracula. I was shocked when I read it in how much I really, really liked it.

Rebecca is one of those that I just loved when I read it a few years ago.

  5. I think I might have to get Mr. Darcy, Vampire, myself – I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to resist it. 🙂 Mistress of the Art of Death is an excellent read. And Nocturnes is a short story book I’ve been reading for a while – the stories are amongst the best creepy stories I’ve ever read. An excellent list, look forward to your reviews.

  6. Before blogging, I don’t think I had ever heard of Wilkie. and now this month, with the RIP posts, I’m seeing the name everywhere! have fun!!!!

  7. I’m going to read Nocturnes too for the Short Story Challenge! Heather, you have a great list. I’ve wanted to read Frankenstein for years, but I’ve never gotten around to it.

And I loved My Cousin Rachel. Probably more than Rebecca, but that’s just me. du Maurier has some fantastic books! I’m so looking forward to your reviews!

  8. Ooh, I am in this challenge too, and we have a few of the same books in the pool. I am hoping to read both Frankenstein and Dracula.

And love that you have Christopher Pike on here. I used to LOVE him when I was younger, but haven’t read him in years.

Here is my first post with my pool of books.

  9. Wonderful selections. I read Frankenstein and loved it (I didn’t think I would!). I’m joining this challenge too (this will be my first year) and I’m really looking forward to diving into books I’ve been meaning to get around to and some new ones.
