Have a new computer, Make sure to do this!

You have brought that new computer home. Now after you have unpacked it, and began setting it up for use. your ready to take it for a spin on the internet highway. But wait, hold on  there. So much of us never think about the security of our computer. Then when things go array, we want to blame the computer.

Recovery media, is called this for a reason, should the hard drive ever fail, you will still have a copy of the operating system.

Windows 8 offers you several ways, depending on the manufacture.

Each computer system is different, some allow you to make what are known as recovery discs. These  consist of transferring your operating system(OS) onto three DVDs.

To set up transfer of the OS(Operating System)  bring up the charm bar.

In the search field type “Control Panel” from here click on “recovery” to get started.

We are going to be using a 16GB Thumb Drive to create our recovery Media

After you click on Recovery there are three options before you. We are going to choose for this operation “Create a Recovery Drive”  After you make your choice, Click the bottom tab marked “Next” then insert the thumb drive and the partition will be transferred to the USB Drive.

The next step is to protect your investment by protecting it with software. The Internet is just full of programs that want you to believe they can make your computer run faster. That is not the case. Only more memory or a faster Processor.

One of the first programs that you want to install is a good Anti-Virus,  if you are a Home User, there is free Anti-virus for you to use.

I have provided you some choices.

Some of these are AVG, ZoneAlarm, and Avast.

To get to the   AVG  Website click on the link below:

Stay away from PC cleaner, Optimizer pro the  list  goes on and on.  There is so much garbage out there you have to be extra careful, so if you find something make sure you check what type of problems previous users have had with that program.

Looking for a Registry Cleaner then look no further then Ccleaner.

Printers can bring you a lot of joy, you can print so many things, including greeting cards, things you find on the internet, however when things go bad, it may be hard to figure out what the problem could be. Let’s say your printer isn’t working, you can’t get it to print. First you try the disk but, for whatever reason, you get nothing. The next step is get on the internet, go to the website that is the printer’s manufacturer.

Be it Acer, Gateway, E-machine, Dell, HP, or Apple. You should also be able to  find the manual should you need one at the same place. So, once you get to the website, say HP, you will be asked the model of the printer, after you type this in, you have the choice of 32 or 64 bit, how do you know which one you have? Below is link of an article I wrote on this subject.

32 bit or 64 bit which one do I have?

Once you have determined if it is 32 or 64, click Next, this will give you the download for the driver, if you want the manual, if you look to the top where you see “User Guide“and this will take to the right page. Now, let’s say your printing however, the print is sporadic, it prints the first two lines, however, the third line is missing. Windows 8 users will need to go to the search bar, and type in device and printers or move mouse to the bottom left corner, right-click on control panel and then go to devices and printers.

For apple users click the link below:

http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4670

The next step is to go to the control panel, devices and printers, Locate your printer, right-click on printer icon, move down where you see printing Preferences, here you have the option to choose either portrait or Landscape. Click on tab “paper Quality”,  move down where you see media, click tab, to either “plain paper fast draft quality or plain paper best quality.”   click apply and OK. This should fix any print from missing from the text on the paper.   If this doesn’t work you may have to replace your ink cartridge.

Deleteing photos on iPhone 5

Well, I noticed a lot of pictures on my iPhone 5. Like you I do take a lot of pictures, then I forget about them. Just haven’t had a lot of time to look them over. Some need to be edited, while others just need to go. There are two ways in which you can do this. After you switch on the camera, and get IMG_0261past the password lock-screen,  go to the camera Icon, Camera Roll, click on the picture, and on the bottom to the far right you will see a trash can, click on this, you can either delete Photo or Cancel.

This other tip, I learned from the internet. First thing you want to do is switch on your iPhone 5, click on the home button, this is  at  the bottom of the screen. Than once you get past the lock-screen, click on the camera icon. camera roll, at the top you should see all, Photo’s and video. Click on Photo’s, on the bottom you should see a small box with an arrow, click on this and just touch on each photo. A red check mark  will appear on each picture. You can either share or delete these pictures.

iPhone – “Do not disturb”

Hi, everybody, today we are going to be talking about the “Do not disturb “feature on the iPhone.  This is setting is used to allow your phone to be one, but, if you’re a evening sleepier, maybe you don’t want somebody waking you for whatever reason.  So to begin with go to settings,  switch the “do not disturb” from off to on. Touch the notifications tab below, here you will see “do not disturb“, touch on this then  Notifications. Tap  “Do not Disturb” here you see Scheduled below this will be the time that you want the  iPhone, not to disturb you while you are sleeping. Don’t worry if you have set the alarm, it will still go off. Now you can also choose, if you want to receive certain calls, to do this just touch “Allow calls from”, this will give you a set of choices either everyone, no one, or your favorites. You will know when it is on, by the half shaped moon at the top of the Apple main screen.

I know how  locations services can be very helpful,  when using as a GPS,  to get directions.  However, You might find that your battery will drain more quickly when it is on.   To shut off  Locations services,  go to the” Home Screen” touch the settings icon, then Privacy, then Locations to switch Off.

Setting the password is also something that is needed. To do this touch Settings, then General, turn on Passcode, enter passcode, you will have to do this twice. Then touch “require passcode” it will give you some choices of how long you want before the screen is locked  having you to re-enter the password, these are from Immediately, to 1-5 minutes. Good Luck, God Bless. God Gets the Glory!!!!

You have an Apple ipod, that has a password on it but, your nephew got a hold of it, and now you can’t get past the log-in screen. The Apple Ipod has locked  you out.  Now, what do you do? First thing  make sure you have iTunes  on your computer.

If you don’t have iTunes you can get it from the apple website at http://www.apple.com/itunes/ Click the iTunes tab to   download it to your computer.

After downloading, you will want to take your Apple  iPod and hook it to your computer. Open up iTunes, hold down the power button and the home button. When the screen goes blank, let go of the power button, continue to hold down the home button.

You should see the Apple  iPod appear in  iTunes.  You will  have two choices  to pick from. One is for a new Apple iPod and the other is  if you want to restore from the Apple  iCloud.

If you don’t have an Apple I.D, you will be able to create one after , the software is installed.  When it is done, it will display that you can disconnect your Apple iPod.
