Disclosure of Funding Sources
All PLOS authors are required to declare all support they received to carry out their research. Declaring funding sources acknowledges funders’ contributions, fulfills funding requirements, and promotes greater transparency in the research process. It also enables editors, peer reviewers and readers to make an informed assessment of the work, taking into consideration any potential conflicts of interest that could arise from the financial relationship(s).
We support Good Publication Practice (GPP) Guidelines for Company-Sponsored Biomedical Research.
What to Declare
Each author must individually declare all sources of funding received for the research reported in the submission. For each funding source, provide the name of granting agency, grant number(s), and a description of the funder’s role. If the funder has played no role in the research, this must be stated as well.
Read the submission guidelines about Financial Disclosure Statements for more information.
Funding Statement
Funding information should be provided at the time of submission through the online submission system. If the article is accepted for publication, the Funding Statement is published on the article and included in the article’s metadata.
Policy enforcement
PLOS requires every submission to have a Funding Statement entered into the online submission system before peer review.
Inaccurate information about funding discovered after publication may require a correction, and may lead PLOS to reconsider the decision to accept the article if we consider that incomplete, omitted, or inaccurate information may have affected peer review outcomes.
Declaring conflicts of interest pertaining to affiliations and funding sources
In the article’s competing interest statement, authors must declare any potential conflicts of interest associated with the authors’ affiliations or with the funders or sponsors of the research, in addition to declaring other types of potential competing interests as discussed in the PLOS Competing Interests policy.
Funding from Tobacco Companies
PLOS journals will not consider for publication manuscripts in which any of the research costs or authors' salaries have been funded, in whole or in part, by a tobacco company.
