Cole Hastings talks about the declining literacy in the United States, the likely causes, and ways we can help improve it on both an individual and societal level.

As aside: The whole language model of learning to read is such a backwards idea for how English works. I know some schools are still using it despite how awful of a method it is. Maybe it would work in languages with less complex vocabulary and grammar. There is more to say on the subject, but that is for the future.
