Bringing European policymaking closer to business realities. Last week, FEDIL held its annual MEPs meet Industry, bringing Luxembourg MEPs and companies together for direct exchanges on some of the key challenges facing industry. ♻️ At PreZero Lamesch, discussions focused on the circular economy, decarbonisation of heavy transport and evolving EU regulation, including DIWASS and Extended Producer Responsibility. ⚡ At Creos’ Dispatching Center, we explored how Luxembourg’s electricity and gas networks are managed in real time, with exchanges on energy infrastructure, grids, investment, skills, data and security. ✨ FEDIL Industry Day 2026 ✨ What does it take for Europe to turn strategic autonomy from policy ambition into industrial strength? This question shaped the fourth edition of FEDIL Industry Day 2026, which welcomed around 350 participants yesterday at Chouchou in Luxembourg-Hollerich, in the presence of ministers Xavier Bettel, Yuriko Backes and Marc Spautz Against the backdrop of intensifying competition between major economic powers, growing strategic dependencies and a global race for technology and investment, the discussions highlighted the need for Europe to rethink the conditions that underpin its industrial competitiveness. Highlights included: ✨ Welcome remarks by Alex Schumann, Chairman of FEDIL ✨ An insightful keynote by Tanja Gönner, Director General of the BDI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e.V. , who stressed the urgency of accelerating action. ✨ An Executive Talk on strategic autonomy as a competitive advantage, featuring Frederik Debrabander, Partner in Energy, Resources & Industrials at Deloitte, and Carlo Martuscelli, Trade Reporter at POLITICO Europe. The discussion drew in particular on the findings of the Antwerp Declaration Monitoring Report prepared by Deloitte. ✨ An Expert Exchange on ‘Aligning industry and policy’, moderated by Yves Germeaux, Head of Trade and International Relations at FEDIL, with Maxence Demerlé, Director of Digital at Mouvement des Entreprises de France; Jean Benoit Henckes, CEO of UNITED CAPS; Sabine von der Recke, member of the OHB System AG Management Board; and Tanja Gönner. The day concluded with remarks by Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, who underlined that Europe must remain a continent that produces, invests and innovates. The FEDIL team, composed of René Winkin, Yves Germeaux and Francesco Fiaschi, was joined by Tom Theves from the Ministry of the Economy and by its honorary president Michèle Detaille to participate in the REF (Rencontre des Entrepreneurs de France), organised by Mouvement des Entreprises de France at Roland-Garros. 🤝 Two days of debates and meetings, culminating in the debate marking the start of the campaign for the French presidential elections. It was a pleasure to meet Pierre Gattaz, former President of MEDEF and BusinessEurope, Frédéric Panier and his team from AKT (organisation of private employers in Wallonia), Hanni Rosenbaum and the Business at OECD team, and Nadia Ernzer, Parmanent Representative of Luxembourg to OECD-OCDE and UNESCO. 🏭 A valuable opportunity to exchange views on the challenges facing European industry and the competitiveness of our economies.

FEDIL - The Voice of Luxembourg's Industry has submitted its formal response to the European Commission’s consultation on the guidelines for the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CS3D). For FEDIL, the guidance should provide clarity and support effective implementation while preserving companies’ ability to adapt due diligence to their sectors, business models and value chains. Our key messages: ✅ Guidance should be practical and proportionate and not become overly prescriptive. ✅ Companies should retain sufficient flexibility to apply risk-based approaches adapted to their specific circumstances. ✅ International standards are valuable references, but should not be used to introduce concepts or requirements that go beyond the Directive. ✅ Priority should be given to horizontal guidance that is consistent with other EU sustainability and due diligence legislation. ✅ Best practices, examples and model contractual clauses should remain voluntary and illustrative. 🔎 Read the full position in the first comment 👇🏻 Yves Germeaux Francesco Fiaschi
